This position is scheduled to end on August 31, 2027, with continuation in successive years possible beyond August 31, 2027 depending on funding, workload, and job performance. Position is located in El Paso. Purpose The Admissions Counselor I serves as a primary university contact for prospective students, applicants, admitted students, families, counselors, and community partners within an assigned territory. The position provides timely guidance throughout the college-selection, admission, and enrollment process; represents The University of Texas at Austin through in-person and virtual recruitment activities; and uses data, relationship-building, and responsive service to advance institutional enrollment goals. The role works with Recruitment supporting Pathways, Partnerships and Pipelines; Orientation; First-Year Experience; academic units; and other campus partners to provide accurate information, strengthen referrals and handoffs, support student transitions, and create a more coherent experience from initial engagement through enrollment and entry into the university community. Responsibilities Advise prospective students, applicants, admitted students, and families throughout the college-selection, admission, and enrollment process. Respond to questions through phone, email, virtual engagement, and in-person meetings; provide individualized guidance; and connect students and families with appropriate university resources. Use territory data, engagement indicators, institutional priorities, and assessment findings to plan, implement, and evaluate recruitment activities. Represent the university at high school, community college, regional, community-based, and on-campus recruitment programs and events. Support Longhorn Orientation and First-Year Experience, Pathways, Partnerships and Pipelines programs and events as assigned. Travel frequently throughout the assigned territory and other areas as assigned, and operate a personal, rental, or university vehicle as needed. Present clear and accurate information about the undergraduate experience, academic opportunities, educational value, admission and enrollment processes, available pathways, orientation, and the transition to the first year. Tailor presentations and outreach to the needs of students, families, counselors, and community partners. Build and sustain relationships with high schools, school districts, community colleges, alumni, community-based organizations, businesses, and educational or pathway partners. Maintain regular communication, learn partner priorities, identify opportunities for collaboration, and share relevant feedback with the Senior Program Coordinator. Promote awareness of available admission pathways and identify students who may benefit from pathway opportunities. Support pathway outreach, recruitment, referrals, and transition activities. Maintain timely and accurate records of student interactions and outcomes in Slate. Review admission applications and meet established productivity, quality, timeliness, and confidentiality expectations. Participate in scholarship review and related processes as assigned. Perform other related functions as assigned. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree. Experience providing customer service and assisting, advising, or counseling students. Experience preparing and delivering presentations to varied audiences. Strong interpersonal, organizational, written, and verbal communication skills and a professional demeanor. Ability to manage multiple tasks, projects, priorities, deadlines, and travel commitments in a fast-paced environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office, customer databases, or customer relationship management systems. Valid driver's license and ability to meet applicable university driving requirements. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish. More than two years of customer service, admissions, recruitment, advising, or student-support experience. Experience working with students on a college or university campus as an orientation or peer advisor, resident assistant, student ambassador, or in another student service-oriented role. Experience with The University of Texas at Austin policies, procedures, academic offerings, programs, and student life. Experience working for a competitive or highly selective institution and communicating professionally and empathetically with students and families. Driving Required This job requires a class "C" operator's driver's license. The applicant selected must provide a current three year driving record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, a Texas driver's license must be obtained within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Employees who are required to have a CDL are subject to drug and alcohol testing (pre-employment, post-accident, reasonable suspicion, random, return-to-duty, and follow-up drug and alcohol testing).
