Payroll Tax Specialist
Develops payroll tax strategy and policy. Audits, tests, and researches new tax regulations and requirements as needed. Ensures the tax set-up is correct in the payroll system and that the tax accounts are reconciled against the impounding of the taxes. Evaluates current systems and recommends and develops operating efficiency improvements.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
- Auditing payroll processing/tax filing to ensure proper accounting and accurate calculations of taxes per all agency and legal requirements
- Collaborating with outsourcing partners and internal customers to ensure proper administration of payroll and tax filings
- Applying subject matter expertise to deliver high level support for payroll tax services
- Leading projects related to payroll taxes and coordinating project support
- Acting as liaison to employees and with tax jurisdictions
- Coordinating third-party payroll tax system implementations and upgrades
- Working directly with employees to resolve outstanding payroll tax inquiries
- Evaluating current systems, and recommending and developing operating efficiency improvements
- Preparing reports illustrating payroll expenditures, including such items as tax payments
- Solving complex problems; taking a new perspective using existing solutions
- Acting as a resource for colleagues with less experience
- Interpreting internal or external business issues and recommending solutions/best practices
Candidate Summary:
Required Experience:
- Experience in handling payroll taxes for multiple states and a minimum of 5000 employees
- Ability to review business processes and identify gaps/areas of improvement
- Ability to communicate effectively to internal customers; both verbal and written
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for effective delivery of analytic solutions
- Ability to handle sensitive information and maintain confidentiality
- Advanced Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Access, Visio, Word) preferred
- Ability to work independently under general supervision and collaboratively as part of a team
- Knowledge and familiarity with ADP and Workday systems
Formal Education, Qualifications or Training:
- Bachelor's degree in a related field with 3 years of payroll tax or related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- 5 years of payroll tax experience required

- Fingering and repetitive motions; such as movement of wrists, hands and fingers while picking, pinching and typing during your normal working environment.
- Express or exchange ideas with others through the use of spoken word, quickly, accurately, and at an easily audible volume, and receive detailed information through oral communication at usual speaking levels without correction
