IBM MQ Admin

IBM MQ Admin | Location: Remote | Contract | Hourly Pay Range: $55-$82

Support enterprise messaging reliability as an IBM MQ Administrator, owning the installation, configuration, and ongoing administration of IBM MQ middleware across distributed platforms. In this role, you'll partner with application, infrastructure, network, and security teams to troubleshoot complex messaging issues, optimize performance, and maintain highly available MQ environments across development through production.

Key Responsibilities

• Install, configure, and maintain IBM MQ across Windows, Linux, Unix, and AIX environments
• Administer Queue Managers, queues (local/remote/transmission), channels, and listeners to ensure reliable message delivery
• Configure IBM MQ clustering and multi-instance Queue Managers to support high availability and failover
• Implement and maintain secure messaging using SSL/TLS, including secure channel configuration
• Monitor queue depths, channel status, message flow, and system performance; resolve message build-ups and processing issues
• Perform routine MQ health checks, audits, and maintenance; apply patches, fixes, updates, and version upgrades
• Configure and manage Dead Letter Queues (DLQs) and error-handling processes
• Implement authentication and authorization controls, including Channel Authentication Records (CHLAUTH), authorities, and access permissions
• Diagnose and resolve connectivity, communication, and message delivery failures across application integrations
• Analyze IBM MQ diagnostics (including AMQERR01.LOG and FDC files) to identify root cause and drive resolution
• Provide production support and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation as required; escalate complex issues to IBM Support when needed
• Develop and maintain backup strategies for Queue Managers and configuration data; execute disaster recovery and failover testing
• Document MQ recovery procedures and support business continuity/disaster recovery planning
• Create and maintain technical documentation, SOPs, and support runbooks; document incidents, changes, and resolutions
• Produce performance, availability, and capacity reporting; maintain accurate configuration details in CMDB/configuration management systems
• Partner with application teams on messaging integration requirements and support deployments/releases involving IBM MQ
• Contribute to architecture and infrastructure design discussions and provide guidance on MQ best practices

Required Qualifications

• Strong hands-on experience administering IBM MQ / WebSphere MQ in enterprise environments
• Experience installing and configuring IBM MQ on Linux, Unix/AIX, and Windows
• Strong knowledge of Queue Managers, queues (local/remote/transmission), channels, listeners, DLQs, MQ clustering, and multi-instance Queue Managers
• Experience with IBM MQ security, including CHLAUTH, authorities, authentication, and SSL/TLS
• Strong troubleshooting skills across MQ connectivity, message flow, and application integration issues
• Experience analyzing AMQERR01.LOG, FDC files, and MQ diagnostic information
• Experience with MQ performance monitoring and tuning
• Knowledge of backup, recovery, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies
• Strong understanding of enterprise application integration and messaging concepts
• Ability to collaborate effectively with application, infrastructure, network, and security teams
• Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation, as required

Preferred Qualifications

• IBM MQ certification or relevant IBM middleware certification
• Experience supporting large-scale, highly available enterprise MQ environments
• Experience with MQ migrations and version upgrades
• Experience with automation and scripting for MQ administration
• Familiarity with enterprise monitoring and observability tools
• Experience working within ITIL-based incident, change, and problem management processes
