Accounting Manager

Our client, a well-known Financial Services firm in the Greater Chicago Area is looking to hire a Accounting Manager to join a growing, multi-location company. This role offers strong visibility to leadership, ownership of key financial processes, and the opportunity to build and develop a team.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop a high-performing team through hiring, onboarding, training, performance management, and ongoing professional development
• Prepare periodic operating and cash flow forecasts; conduct financial analyses to support leadership decision-making
• Oversee accounting operations and support general ledger activities and commission-related processes as needed
• Review and maintain balance sheet reconciliations; ensure timely and accurate bank reconciliations
• Collaborate with the accounting team to document policies and procedures and implement internal controls to mitigate risk and prevent fraud
• Ensure accurate financial reporting, including preparation of consolidated financial statements when applicable
• Oversee disbursement processes, internal controls, debt reporting, and compliance with lender covenants
• Provide coaching and guidance to strengthen team capabilities and support continuous development initiatives
• Coordinate with external valuation specialists to perform independent valuations of financial assets
• Analyze and interpret complex contractual agreements to determine appropriate accounting treatment and revenue recognition

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, or a related discipline
• 5+ years of experience in financial operations, including general ledger accounting, month-end close, and cash management
• 2+ years of experience in treasury functions, lending operations, banking, or a related finance area
• 2+ years of team leadership or supervisory experience
• Prior experience in the mortgage industry preferred
• Familiarity with loan origination, accounting, and document management systems preferred
