Company Overview P&E Constructors is an employee-owned (ESOP) mechanical and electrical construction firm executing large capital projects with deep roots in the industrial construction sector. Since 1946, we've delivered fabrication and installation services with a commitment to safety, quality, reliability, and client-focused solutions. Work Location & Travel Expectations This role supports projects across the United States and requires a high level of travel based on business and project needs. Candidates may be based anywhere within the U.S.; however, the selected individual should be prepared for assignments at various project locations nationwide. Travel for this position may reach up to approximately 90% . Project assignments generally last 10 to 17 months, depending on project duration and operational requirements. While assigned to a project away from home, eligible employees are provided per diem to assist with temporary living and travel-related expenses, in addition to a competitive base salary. To support project deployment, mobilization assistance may be provided, which can include mileage reimbursement or other approved travel support. Employees may also receive extended weekend rotations approximately once per month, allowing additional time for travel home. Depending on project requirements, eligible employees could be provided with either a company-issued vehicle and fuel card or a vehicle allowance to support travel needs. Position Overview The Project Director provides executive leadership for large, complex industrial construction projects, serving as the senior executive responsible for overall project success. This role has full accountability for commercial performance, client relationships, financial results, strategic execution, and organizational leadership on projects exceeding $150 million. The Project Director establishes the overall project strategy, oversees governance, and ensures alignment between the owner, project team, and executive leadership throughout the project lifecycle. Working closely with the Project Manager, Construction Manager, and Superintendents, the Project Director focuses on executive decision-making, contract strategy, financial performance, risk management, staffing, and client satisfaction rather than day-to-day project execution. This position serves as the primary executive interface with owner leadership while ensuring the project achieves its safety, quality, schedule, and profitability objectives. Responsibilities

- Provide executive leadership and strategic oversight for large-scale industrial construction projects from award through final completion
- Serve as the primary executive point of contact for client leadership, maintaining strong relationships with owners and key stakeholders
- Maintain full profit and loss (P&L) accountability, including overall project financial performance, forecasting, and profitability
- Lead contract administration strategy and oversee commercial compliance with contractual requirements
- Direct major change order strategy, negotiations, and commercial resolution with owners and stakeholders
- Review and approve project financial forecasts, Estimate at Completion (EAC), cash flow projections, revenue recognition, and earned value performance
- Lead executive schedule recovery planning and make strategic decisions to maintain project milestones and contractual commitments
- Establish project governance processes while providing executive oversight of project controls, forecasting, reporting, and performance metrics
- Identify, assess, and mitigate project risks while maintaining executive oversight of the project risk register
- Lead executive-level staffing, succession planning, workforce strategy, and organizational development for project leadership teams
- Make strategic procurement and subcontracting decisions that support project objectives and financial performance
- Remove organizational barriers and provide executive support to ensure successful project execution
- Champion company safety culture, quality standards, and operational excellence across the project
- Provide executive oversight of project culture, leadership development, and team performance
- Interface regularly with corporate executives, business unit leadership, and owner representatives regarding project performance and strategic initiatives
- Lead recurring executive project reviews to evaluate project performance, financial health, schedule status, and strategic priorities
- Oversee executive reviews of: Cost forecasting and estimate at completion (EAC), change management and commercial performance, billing, revenue recognition, and cash flow, productivity reporting and key performance indicators, labor planning, staffing, and recruiting strategies, executive client communications, risk register updates and mitigation planning, and schedule recovery planning and execution strategies
- Mentor Project Managers and senior project staff while providing executive leadership across the project organization
- Support business development efforts by strengthening client relationships and identifying future project opportunities
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field
- 15+ years of progressive experience managing large industrial construction projects, including executive leadership responsibilities
- Demonstrated experience leading projects valued at $150 million or greater
- Proven success managing executive client relationships and leading negotiations on complex commercial contracts
- Extensive knowledge of industrial construction project delivery, contract administration, procurement, project controls, and financial management
- Strong understanding of project forecasting, earned value management, cost control, cash flow management, and revenue recognition
- Experience leading major change order negotiations and commercial strategy
- Exceptional leadership, communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills
- Demonstrated ability to lead high-performing project teams while mentoring and developing future leaders
- Strong strategic thinking and executive decision-making abilities with a proactive approach to risk management
- Ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining focus on safety, quality, client satisfaction, and financial performance
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Primavera P6, Procore, Excel, and enterprise project management and financial systems
- The market rate for the role is typically at the mid-point of the salary range; however, variations in final salary are determined by additional factors such as the candidate's qualifications, relevant years of experience, geographic location, internal pay equity, and prevailing market conditions for the specific role.
