Job Description The Human Resource Manager will lead and direct the routine functions of the Human Resources (HR) department, including the development, implementation, and coordination of policies and programs covering employment, wage and salary management, organization development, training, safety and health, benefits, and employee services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization’s human resource and talent strategy, including recruiting, retention, and succession planning. Manages the talent acquisition process, including recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified applicants for managerial, exempt, and professional roles; collaborates with departmental managers to understand skills and competencies required for openings. Recruits, interviews, hires, and trains new staff in the department. Monthly and weekly reporting of HR KPIs: absenteeism, turnover, training, retention, personal hours, head‑count, attendance tracker. Develops and administers the departmental budget. Compensation Reviews and approves payroll. Analyzes trends in compensation and benefits; researches and proposes competitive base and incentive pay programs to attract and retain top talent. Conducts internal and market compensation analyses to determine target new hire wages/salaries and competitive wage rates. Coordinates the annual increase process. Develops a training strategy by creating learning and development programs and initiatives that provide internal development opportunities for employees. Plans and conducts new employee orientation to foster a positive attitude toward company goals. Delivers new hire orientations and ensures all new hire paperwork is completed and filed. Compliance Oversees employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations. Establishes and maintains fair and consistent employee relations policies supporting the company culture and vision; maintains an environment free of illicit drugs and harassment. Responsible for termination and discharge of any employee and oversees unemployment hearings for the Streetsboro plant. Oversees employee relations, including conflict resolution, counseling and disciplinary actions. Maintains compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and regulations; reviews policies and practices to maintain compliance. Maintains knowledge of trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law. Provides support and guidance to HR generalists, management, and other staff when complex, specialized, and sensitive questions and issues arise; may be required to administer and execute routine tasks in delicate circumstances such as providing reasonable accommodations, investigating allegations of wrongdoing, and terminations. Assists EH&S Manager in reviewing local plant safety issues; coordinates with managers and supervisors to resolve on‑the‑job injury issues, e.g., light duty. Employee Engagement Organizes company events (holiday party, monthly engagement activities, etc.). Coordinates annual and quarterly recognition programs. Performance Management Counsels management on actions to be taken regarding employee performance and misconduct; creates and delivers disciplinary warnings with management. Provides constructive and timely performance evaluations. Supports and maintains all company policies including but not limited to SQF/ISO Standards, Health and Safety Requirements, Continuous Improvement, and standard work procedures. Ensures senior site management resources, implements, and meets training needs, and that site personnel meet required competencies to uphold food safety and operational legality. Ensures the integrity and continued operation of the food safety system in the event of organizational or personnel changes. Educational, Skill & Physical Requirements BS degree in Human Resources or equivalent with a minimum of five (5) years progressive HR experience in a manufacturing environment. PHR/SHRM‑CP or equivalent preferred. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence and memos; to write policies and procedures; to present information effectively in one‑on‑one, small and large group settings. Ability to use mathematical concepts, such as probability, statistical inference, financial data, fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions, in practical solutions related to plant staffing. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions presented in written, oral or diagram form; ability to deal with problems in varying situations.
