Senior Counsel - Patent Medicinal/Pharmaceutical Chemistry
Amgen Inc
Senior Counsel position focused on developing and executing global intellectual property strategies for therapeutic products and candidates in medicinal and pharmaceutical chemistry. Will work across R&D and business teams to manage patent prosecution, freedom-to-operate analysis, licensing activities, and IP-related litigation matters.
Responsibilities
- Identify patentable subject matter and work with Amgen scientists on IP strategy
- Draft, file, and prosecute patent applications globally; conduct prior art searches
- Analyze patents and prepare freedom-to-operate opinions for various products
- Conduct due diligence and negotiate research and licensing agreements
- Assist with litigation-related matters and PTAB/opposition proceedings
Requirements
- J.D. or LL.M. from accredited law school with U.S. bar admission
- Four or more years practicing intellectual property law
- Registration to practice before U.S. Patent and Trademark Office
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in organic or medicinal chemistry preferred
- Experience with biotechnology/pharmaceutical IP law at law firm or corporation preferred
- Experience in adversarial proceedings such as patent litigation and Inter Partes Reviews preferred
