Sr. Intellectual Property (“IP”) Counsel

Intellia Therapeutics seeks a Senior IP Counsel to develop and manage global intellectual property strategy for its CRISPR-based genome editing platform. The role involves patent prosecution, litigation support, due diligence, and cross-functional collaboration across research, business, and legal teams in a fast-paced biotech environment.
Responsibilities
- Lead development and management of worldwide IP portfolio focused on CRISPR-Cas9 and gene editing applications
- Identify patentable inventions, draft, file, and prosecute patent applications globally through internal and external counsel
- Provide strategic IP advice to scientific, business, and legal teams; conduct due diligence and risk assessments for partnerships and transactions
- Negotiate and advise on licensing, collaboration, research, and manufacturing agreements supporting business objectives
- Collaborate with litigation attorneys on patent disputes, PTAB challenges, and oppositions; provide IP training to employees
Requirements
- J.D. or LL.M. from accredited law school; admitted to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction
- Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO)
- 8–10+ years patent or IP law experience in life sciences, biotechnology, or pharmaceuticals
- Proven expertise in patent preparation, prosecution, FTO analysis, infringement and validity assessments
- Proficiency with patent searching tools and Microsoft Office Suite
- Demonstrated leadership and mentorship ability; experience managing outside counsel and teams
- Advanced scientific degree (Ph.D. or Master's) strongly preferred; PTAB or IP litigation experience preferred
