Financial Counselor - RCO Financial Clearance

Overview To provide the skills necessary to interview patients for demographic, financial, and third-party payor information to determine their ability to pay for services. Responsibilities Gathers all patient demographic data required in the Hospital Information System during patient interview. Screens patient for financial responsibility by using the uniform financial screening document. Verifies patient information by obtaining copies of proofs of residency, income, and third-party carriers. Determines potential reimbursement sources available to the patient and directs them to these sources. Determines the proper pay classification of the patient. Calculates patient charges for office visits and collects payment. Counsels with patients about unpaid bills. Researches invalid charge slips and creates appropriate account for billing. Creates a patient folder for appropriate paperwork. Adheres to internal controls established for the department. Performs related duties as required in the environment. Qualifications Minimum Qualifications: One year of related experience. Preferred Qualifications: Knowledge of indigent care and charity assistance programs, including eligibility requirements and enrollment processes. Experience conducting financial screenings for patients. Experience utilizing a customer relationship management (CRM) system or electronic in-basket workflows in a healthcare or administrative setting. Additional Details WORKING ENVIRONMENT/EQUIPMENT: Standard office environment and equipment. SALARY RANGE: Actual salary commensurate with experience. WORK SCHEDULE: On-site, Monday through Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM.
