Control Specialist - Platteville, CO

Overview A Control Specialist is needed in Platteville, CO to support power plant operations and maintain safe, efficient operations. Summary of Duties Direct operators to start, stop and adjust equipment as necessary. Start, stop and control various power plant systems that include fans, pumps, regulators, etc. Control and monitor various plant systems and direct operators as necessary. Make load changes as directed or as system demands. Takes corrective action of all kinds to maintain safe conditions for operating personnel and all equipment while obtaining maximum load as conditions warrant. Work to maximize plant efficiency and minimize costs. Monitor and inspect control panels reporting abnormal conditions and take corrective actions when needed. Train operators and new controls employees in job duties and responsibilities as assigned. May be assigned to work in lower operator classification on a rotating basis. Ensure the plant operates safely and remains in compliance with plant permit requirements and governmental regulations. Verify the plant is operated in accordance with technical specifications of steam turbine and gas turbine plants. Monitor and operate multiple turbine units using SCADA controls (experience with Ovations and Mark 6E preferred). Prepare and maintain proper LOTO clearances using eSOMS and SAP within Xcel's safety protocols. Qualifications High School Diploma or GED. Must work rotating shifts. Must respond to overtime and callouts. Must commit to working safely and adhere to company safety rules including wearing a hardhat, safety toe footwear, protective eye wear and proper PPE. Must have Control Board Operator experience, completed a control operator/specialist apprenticeship (or equivalent), and with a minimum of 2 years’ experience operating a large, combined cycle power/coal plant (or equivalent). Must pass a written and practical test prior to selection. Knowledge of equipment operation such as pumps, control valves, motor controls with integrated power plant operations experience and ability to demonstrate general control operator knowledge through testing and/or interview. Successfully pass the Xcel Energy screening requirements, which include a drug screening test and a general security clearance. Ovation and Mark 6E experience preferred. Pay $63.95 per hour.
