Reports to: Director of Student Services and Elementary School Principal Job Goal Provide direction and organizational structure to the student services staff in the implementation of policies and procedures related to Federal and State laws for special education, Preschool, and other areas of student services at the elementary school, as assigned. The below lists are not ranked in order of importance. Qualifications Hold an Ohio Special Education Teacher's Certificate in at least one of the areas of students with disabilities to be supervised Hold an educational administrative specialist, principal, or supervisor certificate Have three years of teaching experience in special education Supervisory or administrative experience preferred Demonstrated knowledge and experience within Google Apps for Education suite Possess knowledge in Microsoft Office Solutions, Word, Excel Possess the ability to follow oral and written instructions Must have ability to work independently Must have excellent organizational skills Submit an acceptable background check as requested Must be able to think critically about and find solutions to new problems Demonstrated skill in oral and written communication using up-to-date technology Such alternatives to the above as deemed by the Superintendent Essential Functions Assists with programs in, but not limited to the following areas: special education programs for students with disabilities, preschool, Section 504 Collaborates the delivery and continuous improvement of special education programs Collaboration of the delivery of student services, which supplement and support the district's other educational programs and activities Consults with the elementary principal on aspects of program implementation in the school Assists with mandated reports for submission to the Ohio Department of Education Assists building administration by interpreting district policies and procedures relating to students with disabilities Provides leadership and direction to administrators, psychologists, general education and special education staff for the implementation of Federal law and Ohio rules for educating students with disabilities Provides clear guidance to administrators and staff on Response to Intervention and Multi-Tiered Systems of Response Actively provides leadership and direction to administrators, school counselors, and staff regarding requirements under Section 504 Participates in the placement of students with disabilities in alternative placements, including schools outside the district, scholarship, court placed, fostered out Assists in developing district-wide policies concerning special education programs and student services Develops procedures to maintain complete individual records of all children enrolled in special education Recommends the approval of supplies, instructional materials, and curriculum used by special education, preschool, and ELL staff. Advises all personnel on rules and regulations regarding all programs that relate to special education, Section 504, preschool and student services Collaborating in the processes and procedures to ensure the accurate reporting of special education as it impacts the EMIS data management Maintain an appropriate and professional rapport with coworkers & students Communicate effectively with supervisor Ensure safety of students Promote positive public relations Serve as a role model for students Provide internal and external reports and presentations as requested Maintain respect at all times for confidential information, e.g., test scores, student/personnel information Successfully completes all district training requirements in a timely manner Comply with all Board of Education policies Other duties as assigned by Superintendent or her/his designee Required Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities Commitment to professional growth, continuous improvement, and the district's mission Ability to work collaboratively with others to solve problems Ability to communicate ideas and directives clearly and effectively both orally and in writing Effective active listening skills Organizational and problem-solving skills Ability to be flexible and adaptable to changing situations Basic first aid Additional Working Conditions Occasional exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and tissue Occasional operation of a vehicle under inclement weather conditions, i.e., being prepared to come to school on all scheduled work days Frequent and regular requirement to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see, read, speak, reach, stretch with hands and arms, crouch, climb, kneel, and stoop Occasional requirement to carry, lift, push, and pull items up to a maximum of 50 pounds Ability to meet physical requirements on a daily basis Climb steps Lift and carry up to 40 pounds This job description is subject to change and in no manner states or implies that these are the only duties and responsibilities to be performed by the incumbent.
