Software Engineer Intern – Fall 2026 The University of South Florida (USF) Institute of Applied Engineering (IAE) provides engineering solutions to enhance performance for a variety of sponsors, including the Department of Defense. The Software Engineering Intern will work under Accenture Federal Services (AFS) technical leadership to support specialized programs and contribute to data science and program management initiatives for the Department of Defense. Job Description The internship focuses on cybersecurity‑focused software systems, cloud infrastructure, and operational efficiency tools. Interns will design, prototype, test, and maintain applications in AWS, collaborate with engineers, document processes, and assist with program management tasks. Time Commitment Hours: 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, Monday‑Friday. Fall/Spring semesters: 15‑20 hours per week. Summer semester: 20‑29 hours per week. This is an in‑person internship with limited remote work opportunities. Responsibilities Design, prototype, and test cybersecurity‑focused software systems. Design, build, deploy, and maintain applications and infrastructure inside AWS Cloud. Collaborate with AFS engineers on tools that increase operational efficiency and software readiness. Document processes, technical findings, and standard operating procedures. Contribute to program management tasks such as tracking workflow progress, preparing briefings, and organizing project artifacts. Qualifications U.S. citizenship required. Pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a similar discipline. Junior or Senior standing. Minimum 3.0 GPA. Experience with Java, Python, and JavaScript preferred. Strong troubleshooting skills. Good planning and organizational skills. Well‑developed interpersonal and communication skills.
