Custodial Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator)

Summary You will serve as a Custodial Worker (Motor Vehicle Operator) at Valley Forge National Historical Park in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania. Major Duties At the full performance level (WG-04) the major duties of this position include, but are not limited to, the following: Does the full range of cleaning duties in an assigned area following general instructions on the work to be done. Performs custodial/janitorial duties cleaning, sanitizing, emptying trash, and restocking public restrooms; cleaning, vacuuming, mopping, dusting, emptying trash and recyclables. Scrubs, strips, waxes and polishes floors using heavy (industrial type) power scrubber and buffer. Washes walls using powered wall washing machines and/or by hand. Vacuums/cleans rugs, carpets, etc. using heavy vacuum cleaner. Adjusts, cleans, and oils these machines and changes brushes, rollers, buffers, and other attachments. Moves heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment. Occasionally works on ladders and scaffolds to change light bulbs, wash walls, etc. Keep shop areas clean and in order. Sweeps and wet mops floor and removes various liquid and solid wastes, spills, etc. On a regular and recurring basis operates light duty motor vehicles weighing up to 10,000 pounds (such as pick-up trucks, flatbed trucks, 5 yard dump trucks, etc.) to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sited located on the park. Physical Demands: The work performed requires moderately heavy physical effort and involves lifting and moving objects over 40 pounds and occasionally objects weighing over 50 pounds. Custodial workers must move and control heavy equipment, carry and set up ladders and scaffolding, and work from ladders and scaffolds. Frequently, they must lift and move objects weighing about 40 pounds, and occasionally objects weighing over 50 pounds. Working Conditions: Usually works indoors in areas, which normally have adequate, heat, light, and ventilation. The incumbent is exposed to vibration from heavy equipment and to skin irritations from strong cleaning solutions used in stripping floors, etc. Care is required to avoid serious injuries when working on ladders and scaffolds.
