Surgical Technologist

The Surgical Technologist assists during surgical procedures by maintaining the integrity of a sterile field and providing necessary instrumentation to the surgical team. This role involves ensuring patient safety by adhering to aseptic techniques, preparing and handling surgical instruments, and supporting the perioperative team throughout procedures. The Surgical Technologist works under the direction of a Registered Nurse, participates in quality assurance activities, and maintains professional standards in a fast-paced operating room environment. Responsibilities:

• Apply expertise in sterile and aseptic techniques, combining knowledge of human anatomy and surgical procedures to support invasive therapeutic and diagnostic operations.
• Maintain and inspect surgical items for proper packaging, processing, moisture, seal integrity, sterile indicators, and expiration dates.
• Ensure the operating room environment is safe, equipment functions properly, and procedures maximize patient safety.
• Monitor the sterile field for contamination risks and initiate corrective actions as necessary under supervision.
• Work towards or maintain competency with Tier 1 surgical cases.
• Communicate effectively and participate fully in perioperative team briefings, time-outs, and debriefings.
• Assist with patient transport, room turnovers, and preparation for surgeries.
• Maintain currency in new technologies, procedures, instrumentation, and equipment relevant to surgical care.
• Clean and prepare instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Model principles of a Just Culture and comply with HIPAA regulations.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

• Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist program and/or Licensed Surgical Technologist license.
• Licensed as a Surgical Technologist in the state of Colorado.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification by the American Heart Association.
• Proficiency in English language (reading, writing, speaking).
• Computer skills sufficient to complete online learning and documentation requirements within 90 days of hire.

• Experience with Tier 1 surgical cases.
• Familiarity with AORN standards and perioperative best practices.

• Must comply with HIPAA and safety management protocols regarding potential hazards such as radiation, toxic chemicals, biological hazards, heat, noise, and dust.
• Ability to work under stress and meet deadlines independently or as part of a team.
• Physical demands include standing 50% of the time, walking 20%, and occasional lifting up to 50 lbs.
• Must demonstrate punctuality and reliability to begin scheduled shifts on time.

• Work schedule consists of three 12-hour day shifts per week.
• Shift assignments follow facility staffing requirements and may require flexibility.
