Inpatient - Medical/Surgical- Registered Nurse

Akicita Federal is hiring Medical-Surgical Registered Nurses to deliver direct inpatient care to adult patients served by the Indian Health Service in Chinle, Arizona. This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in an underserved community while working within a dedicated Adult Care Unit team in the heart of the Navajo Nation. Provide comprehensive nursing assessment, planning, and direct bedside care to adult inpatient populations in a fast-paced medical-surgical unit. Administer medications, treatments, and therapeutic interventions in accordance with established clinical protocols and provider orders. Monitor and document patient status, vital signs, and clinical progress, escalating concerns to the care team promptly and accurately. Coordinate care transitions, discharge planning, and patient education to support safe, continuous care throughout the patient's stay. Respond to cardiac and medical emergencies using ACLS and BLS protocols, functioning as a reliable member of the rapid-response team. Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members—including physicians, specialists, and support staff—to develop and execute individualized patient care plans. Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in compliance with facility and regulatory standards. What sets candidates apart: Prior experience providing nursing care in a federal, tribal, or Indian Health Service healthcare setting. Familiarity with the health priorities and cultural context of Native American and/or rural patient populations. Additional unit-specific certifications beyond BLS and ACLS relevant to adult medical-surgical care. Experience working in critical-access or resource-limited hospital environments where clinical adaptability is essential. Demonstrated track record of long-term placement stability, reducing gaps in care continuity for the patient population served.
