POSITION SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:  Provides direct care and supervision to students during residential (non-school) hours teaching daily living skills, community integration, and socialization to students ranging from 4 to 21 years old.  Implements residential objectives and behavioral support plans.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :  Listed below are the essential functions of this position. Successful job applicants will be able to perform these essential functions with or without a requested reasonable accommodation.

·         Shift Prep:  Identification of assigned students; prepare materials for schedules, check and respond to emails, help with other cottage responsibilities.

·         Manages 1-3 students during assigned hours.

·         Develop and participate in zone defense, as well as additional engagement and supervision as needed.

·         Implements residential component of Individual Treatment Plans.

·         Implements behavioral programs; to include use of PCM.

·         Collects daily data as determined by individual programs.

·         Participates in identifying individual student needs and methods to meet those needs.

·         Provides formal and informal observational information to the appropriate parties regarding student’s needs, skill development or related matters.

·         Maintains a safe and healthy residential environment.

·         Completes all documentation requirements as determined by treatment plans, individual behavior plans, SYC policy, and applicable state and federal laws – including immediate documentation of critical incidents.

·         Completes all tasks considered routine and/or basic services provisions.

·         Substitutes for other staff as necessary.

·         Maintains the residential environment, materials, and curricula in good order.

·         Required to attend all staff meetings, in-service trainings, and any other staff meetings as scheduled.

·         Respectful of equipment and/or working environment; promotes an environment free from conduct that violates the rights of others.

·         Participates in the dispensing of medication to students when warranted.

·         Engages with students during all residential activities.

·         Provides exceptional customer service to students, their families, and outside stakeholders.

·         Monitors, screens, and responds to all pertinent communication regarding case assignments and residential responsibilities in a timely fashion.

·         Bi-weekly supervision with direct supervisor.

·         Limits cell phone use during shifts.

·         Is familiar with Spaulding’s Safety Program, accessible in SharePoint or by printed copy, and adheres to all provisions of the written safety plan.

·         Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Ø   If assigned duties in the capacity of 1:1 Services, in addition to the above the employee will be required to

·         Maintain knowledge of and implement the identified plan that addresses the need for 1:1 service

·         Attend on-going training pertaining to the identified plan

·         Provide timely and appropriate documentation as dictated by the plan, which includes documentation of 1:1 services provided.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIRED :  High school diploma or GED required.  Must be 21 years of age. Residential experience with emotionally handicapped, learning disabled, neuro-behaviorally impaired, autistic, intellectually disabled or delinquent boys and girls or adolescents is preferred, but not required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:  Successful completion of PCM training – must obtain certification as a Practitioner 2 for continued employment; 1st Aid, CPR, medication distribution and the training sequence required by Spaulding for this position.  Crisis management skills, strong interpersonal and organizational skills, the ability to teach and train new staff on online duties, willing to engage in open communication with direct supervisors and co-coworkers, role model behavior and work practice for other staff. Ability to engage particularly challenging children in activities during residential hours.   Must have a valid driver’s license and meet the Spaulding insurance company’s requirements to transport our students in a Spaulding provided vehicle.

SCHEDULE:  Full-time schedule – Monday – Friday.

WORK ENVIRONMENT: Residential housing, transporting to and from community and active campus setting(s) (walking, physical play activities, etc. - need appropriate indoor/outdoor wear). The job is physically demanding and requires standing for long periods of time and intense physical intervention based on student need.  Position may include work inside; work outside; wet; humid; noisy/environment; chemicals; blood/body fluids; fumes; odors; dust; poor ventilation; moving objects; slippery surfaces, etc.  Safety equipment includes the use of mats for behavioral management, also will need to utilize bite guards and rubber gloves.

SPECIAL DEMANDS: Must be physically agile to deal with students who have the potential to be combative, agitated and volatile.  Staff must be able to move up and down from a kneeling position 10 times in one minute as well as be able to assist in lowering an adult-size person to the floor with the assistance from one other person.  Exposure to students’ bodily fluids (i.e., urine, saliva, feces, vomit, and blood) and cleanup of said fluids.  Mandatory training in CPR, First Aid, Medication Distribution, and physical restraints.  Must be able to quickly assess a crisis or escalation and be able to use an appropriate response to change
