Associate Director, Volunteerism

The Associate Director, Volunteerism will plan and execute corporate and community volunteer projects throughout the year that support United Way of Greater Atlanta's mission and revenue goals. Reporting to the Director, Volunteerism, this role is also responsible for supporting large-scale community projects, developing customized volunteer experiences for corporate partners, and cultivating relationships with corporate and nonprofit partners. The Associate Director will serve as a key project manager and relationship builder, ensuring volunteer experiences are impactful, well-executed, and aligned with community needs and partner objectives. The role will also support the development and coordination of occasional skills-based volunteer opportunities that leverage professional expertise to strengthen nonprofit organizations and community outcomes. High value volunteer experiences, repeat customers, and project revenue will be the key drivers of success in this role.

Qualifications

• Education level required: High School Diploma required. Bachelor's degree in social services, business, non-profit management, public administration, or related field preferred, or comparable work experience.
• Years of service required: Minimum of 3 years in event planning, volunteer management, or related nonprofit roles.
• Experience needed: Strong track record in planning and executing events, managing volunteers, coordinating stakeholder relationships, and delivering impactful community engagement programs. Experience working with nonprofit organizations and corporate partners preferred. Experience supporting skills-based volunteer initiatives is a plus.
• Communication skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with experience in public speaking and storytelling.
• Supervision skills: Experience leading volunteers and cross-functional collaboration.
• Programs and Tech needs: Proficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM systems, and volunteer management platforms.
• Skills needed to be successful: Highly organized, resourceful, adept at multitasking, excellent problem-solving abilities, and relationship management. Experience identifying opportunities to expand volunteer engagement and partnership growth.

Responsibilities

• Project Management: Plan, execute, and manage turnkey volunteer projects for corporations and community groups, from initial concept through completion and follow up, ensuring excellence in every experience.
• Volunteer Engagement: Design impactful volunteer projects, tailored to align with corporate partner goals and data from the Child Well-Being Index . Ensure volunteers have an understanding of UWGA's work and value within the community.
• Project Support: Support larger and annual programming of the Volunteerism team, including community-wide efforts and large corporate Days or Weeks of Service.
• Relationship Building: Build and maintain relationships with current volunteers, corporate partners, nonprofits, and community organizations, proactively identifying opportunities for both traditional and skills-based volunteer engagement. Cultivate partnerships that leverage professional expertise in areas such as strategy, skills-based volunteerism, and capacity building.
• Collaboration: Partner with Corporate Relations, Regional Development, Community Engagement and other teams to coordinate the overall UWGA experience, engagement, distribution and address queries
• Data Management: Ensure accurate capture and tracking of volunteer engagement data using CRM software and maintain a robust database to support the department's strategic objectives.
• Skills-Based Volunteerism Development (approximately 10%): Explore opportunities for skills-based volunteerism that connect corporate partners' professional expertise with nonprofit and community needs.
• United Way Ambassador: Act as a subject matter expert and advocate, promoting United Way and child well-being issues to diverse audiences.
• Additional Duties: Undertake other responsibilities as assigned by the Director to contribute to the overall success of the Volunteerism Department.

The ideal candidate will possess a strategic mindset, knowledge of the corporate volunteer market, and demonstrate experience translating corporate expertise into community impact. They will exhibit a deep passion for nonprofit work, particularly for advancing child well-being, and excel in building relationships with diverse groups across the Greater Atlanta community.
