The (Senior) Renaissance Center is a 501c3 non-profit located in Sylvan Park at the Cohn Learning Center. We are dedicated to providing free programs and activities to adults 60+ in Davidson County, aimed at reducing isolation, enhancing quality of life, and fostering personal growth as individuals age.
The Renaissance Center is a welcoming space to connect, learn, and thrive through a variety of programs including fitness, arts, technology, and social activities. Our vision is to be a leading community resource where older adults feel valued and find opportunities to grow and contribute.
DESCRIPTION
The Center Operations Coordinator ensures each day runs smoothly. This role is responsible for scheduling daily volunteer support, coordinating coverage when needed, and overseeing the overall look and feel of the center to ensure a welcoming and well-run environment, including maintaining cleanliness, supporting program setup, and welcoming participants and guests.
The Center Operations Coordinator staffs in-person shifts during hours of operation. Until otherwise amended permanently or for coverage, the individual in this role will open and close the center Monday – Friday, 8:00am – 1:00pm.
This role will report to the Program Director who sets the overall goals and initiatives and reports to the Board of Directors.
As a highly volunteer-driven organization, the Renaissance Center relies on a team of engaged volunteers, and this role partners closely with them to support, coordinate, and foster their central role in daily operations.
Job Responsibilities
CENTER TASKS & RESPONSIBILITIES
The following details some of the day-to-day, weekly, and monthly responsibilities of supporting center operations.
- Carry out daily responsibilities (subject to change, not exhaustive):
- 8:00 AM – 8:30 AM: Implement opening protocol
- Turn on lights
- Adjust AC units
- Turn on warmer for meals
- Clear and wipe down tabletops
- Declutter kitchen (wiping surfaces, organizing supplies)
- 8:30 AM – 9:00 AM: Prepare for scheduled activities
- Prepare coffee (when needed)
- Put out Bingo prizes (Fridays)
- Set-up chairs/tables as relevant
- Receive lunch
- Greet / welcome guests
- 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM: Program / Thrift Shop Operations
- Set-up chairs/tables as relevant
- Ensure attendance sheets are updated
- Engage participants: regulars, newcomers, alike
- Anticipate/coordinate for future activities
- Assist people dropping off thrift shop donations
- 11:00 AM – 11:30 AM: Lunch, Dishes
- Serve lunch (pre-packaged meals)
- Complete meal paperwork
- Wash used coffee cups, vases, dishes, etc.
- 11:30 AM – 12:45 PM: Program Operations
- Set-up chairs/tables as relevant
- Carry out other program support, as assigned or needed
- Set-up for Flower Power program (Thursdays)
- 12:45 PM – 1:00 PM: Implement closing protocol
- Ensure all doors are closed
- Turn off lights
- Monitor AC units
- 8:00 AM – 8:30 AM: Implement opening protocol
- Carry out weekly responsibilities:
- Anticipate logistics for programming
- Clean and organize high traffic areas
- Wash and fold towels used for cleaning
- Support meal program by: attaining participant signatures and submitting weekly meal sheets.
- Carry out monthly responsibilities:
- Coordinate monthly volunteer schedule to ensure daily support
- Submit volunteer hours associated with meal program
ONBOARDING EXPECTATIONS
Paid onboarding & training will be provided over the course of two weeks and will be coordinated by the Program Manager. During this time, the following will be covered:
- Google Workspace: setting up email, access to shared files
- Monthly program calendar
- Attendance tracking
- Meal program procedures
- Thrift shop procedures: receiving donations
- Attend/participate in programming (e.g. fitness classes, speaker series, tech classes)
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate is a self-starter and a natural “people person” who thrives in a dynamic environment. This role requires strong organization, reliability, attention to detail, and effective time management. It involves a balance of physical tasks—such as cleaning, tidying, lifting, and rearranging tables/chairs—and thought work, including critical thinking, clear communication, and problem-solving. As the face of the Renaissance Center, this individual should excel at making participants and volunteers feel welcome and engaged. Experience in hospitality or retail is preferred, and familiarity with working with volunteers or older adults is a plus.
This person should be proficient in computer-based work, including Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Drive, and Gmail), to support communication and collaboration.

The Renaissance Center is closed for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Presidents’ Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving (and the day after), and the week between Christmas and New Year’s Day. These days are unpaid days of closure.
All part-time employees receive one week of paid time off after 6 months of employment.
