The Vice President of Development leads Morrison’s fundraising efforts by building donor relationships, growing philanthropic support, and advancing mission‑driven giving that sustains our statewide behavioral health services for children, youth, and families. This role oversees major gifts, foundation relationships, donor engagement, marketing and communications, and annual and intimate cultivation events, in close partnership with the CEO. Morrison is a well‑established, $40M organization with a strong base of government funding and significant opportunity to grow philanthropic revenue. The Vice President is accountable for near‑term philanthropic revenue through active moves management, while also building the strategy, systems, and relationships needed to grow total fundraising from approximately $1M today toward $2M+ annually over the next 3–5 years, including expansion of the Morrison Foundation. The Vice President will develop and execute strategies to expand major gifts, foundation support, event revenue, and planned giving, while strengthening the development function to support long‑term growth. This is hands‑on fundraising, serving as Morrison’s primary ambassador to the philanthropic community, managing a high‑impact donor portfolio, making direct asks, closing gifts, hosting events and building the infrastructure for sustained fundraising success. Serve as Morrison’s senior fundraising leader securing significant financial contributions and oversee marketing and communications designed to build our brand with clients, community, and donors, strengthen fundraising efforts, and support efforts to maximize utilization of key behavioral health programs. Grow annual philanthropic revenue year‑over‑year from approximately $1M toward $2M+ and support progress toward approximately 5% philanthropic support within 3‑5 years. Build, manage, and cultivate a portfolio of major donors, foundations, and corporate partners. Lead, direct, and operationalize all aspects of donor engagement and cultivation, donor relations, donor appreciation & recognition, identification of new donor prospects, and enhancing community awareness of the agency, and closing five‑ and six‑figure gifts. Strengthen key fundraising efforts, including long‑term donors, the Morrison Foundation, planned giving, grants, and the annual event. Manage the full donor lifecycle, including prospect identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and retention. Use the annual event as a stronger pipeline, conversion, and revenue strategy. Translate Morrison’s mission, program needs, and outcomes into a compelling case for support. Equip Board members to support philanthropy through giving, introductions, advocacy, cultivation, and stewardship. Implement clear fundraising goals, donor pipeline systems, CRM practices, dashboards, and KPI reporting. Supervise and support a small development and marketing/communications team, with an eye toward future growth and expansion. Align fundraising, marketing, and communications so donor messaging, storytelling, and external positioning are clear and consistent. Oversee donor‑facing communications, including newsletters, annual reports, event materials, presentations, press releases, video, and related materials. Collaborate across departments to identify funding opportunities and translate program outcomes into fundable initiatives and donor stories. Partner with the CEO, CFO, Operating Board, and Foundation Board on fundraising, storytelling, visibility, and Board engagement. Be aware of Morrison Compliance Program including Compliance Officer, Compliance Standards of Conduct, and Employee Compliance Hotline. Understand compliance standards and complete all assigned compliance, HIPAA, client privacy, and fraud, waste, and abuse training. Participate in Morrison Compliance Program and actively promote compliance within the organization. Assure compliance training requirements are met and display any concerns about billing, invoicing, fraud, waste and abuse, improper business practices, or privacy are reported timely. Implement compliance monitoring activities and corrective actions in collaboration with the VP of Quality & Compliance or Q&C staff. Demonstrate a commitment to developing a thorough knowledge and application of the Sanctuary model and other organizational policies & practices. Participate in staff development, in‑services, and training related to workplace effectiveness; model professional behaviors and implement improvements to business practices with awareness of their impact in a trauma‑informed behavioral healthcare organization. Perform other duties as assigned.EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education, experience, and training. 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in nonprofit fundraising, with demonstrated success in major gifts, donor cultivation, pipeline management, and marketing/communications functions. Proven track record of personally securing and closing five‑ and six‑figure gifts, with responsibility for managing a portfolio of high‑capacity donors and delivering annual fundraising results. Experience overseeing and integrating donor engagement, marketing, and communications strategies to strengthen brand visibility, donor acquisition, and philanthropic growth. Demonstrated ability to lead through metrics‑driven, moves management practices, including CRM utilization, pipeline development, and performance tracking. Strong supervisory and team leadership experience, with the ability to build, develop, and scale a high‑performing development function. Exceptional organizational and project management skills, with the capacity to manage multiple priorities across fundraising, events, communications, and donor engagement. Experience serving as a trusted external ambassador to donors, foundations, and community partners, with strong relationship‑building and representation skills.REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Collaborative leadership style, with the ability to work cross‑functionally and partner effectively with the CEO, executive leadership, and program teams to advance organizational priorities. Achieve or exceed annual philanthropic revenue targets (approximately $1M baseline), demonstrating clear year‑over‑year growth toward the $2M+ trajectory. Secure new and upgraded five‑ and six‑figure gifts through disciplined portfolio management, direct solicitations, and effective gift closure. Build and actively manage a high‑performing portfolio of major donors, foundations, and corporate partners, with clear cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans for top prospects. Strengthen overall pipeline health and conversion, with measurable movement of prospects through the full donor lifecycle (identification, qualification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship, and retention). Implement and operationalize a metrics‑driven fundraising system, including CRM best practices, moves management processes, dashboards, and KPI reporting to track performance and inform strategy. Launch and sustain a coordinated donor engagement strategy, including annual and intimate cultivation events that contribute directly to pipeline development and revenue generation. Deliver a clear, compelling, and consistently used case for support that strengthens donor conversations, proposals, and fundraising communications. Increase donor retention and progression through improved stewardship, recognition, and relationship management. Establish strong internal alignment with the CEO, Board(s), and cross‑functional leaders, including active Board engagement in introductions, cultivation, and fundraising support, as well as recruitment of new Board members to support and enhance fundraising efforts. Build the foundation of a scalable development function by strengthening systems, workflows, and team capacity to support sustained growth beyond the first year.PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE

Position requires occasional night and/or weekend hours. Must be able to pass criminal history background check. Personal transportation allowing for travel within the Portland/Vancouver metropolitan areas. If driving a personal vehicle for work purposes must have and maintain a valid driver’s license for state of residency, personal auto liability coverage at the $100,000/$100,000 level, and a driving record permitting coverage under a corporate liability policy.WORKING CONDITIONS
Environment: Work is done in clinical offices, community settings, including Morrison Residential, administration buildings, public locations, and social service sites. Breaks and meals are subject to interruption. Universal Precautions and remaining alert to the environment are critical to address the potential for violent behavior, exposure to disease, biohazards, noise, and contaminants. Mental demands: Work assigned is diverse and may involve addressing new and unique circumstances. The work might be unpredictable and disrupts planned tasks, requiring flexible time management. Physical demands: Ability to remain calm and emotionally available serving youth, adults and or families who have experienced trauma. Proficient with office equipment and physical movement. Ability to perform physical interventions if needed in accordance with program and training. Physical dexterity for reaching, stooping, and repetitive wrist and hand motions.
