Health Information Specialist

Health Information SpecialistWe are seeking a detail-oriented Health Information Specialist to support the integrity, security, and accessibility of patient health records. This role is responsible for maintaining electronic health records, processing medical records requests, ensuring HIPAA compliance, and supporting providers, patients, and operational teams with timely access to health information.Key ResponsibilitiesManage, maintain, and organize electronic and paper medical records.Scan, index, upload, and file patient documentation within the EHR system.Enter, update, and verify patient demographic, insurance, and clinical information.Review records for accuracy, completeness, and proper document indexing.Resolve duplicate records, indexing errors, and documentation discrepancies.Process and fulfill medical records requests from patients, providers, payers, attorneys, and other authorized parties.Ensure compliance with HIPAA, patient authorization requirements, and organizational policies regarding protected health information (PHI).Support audits, compliance initiatives, quality improvement efforts, and reporting requests.Collaborate with clinical, operational, and administrative teams to support documentation integrity and continuity of care.QualificationsHigh school diploma or equivalent required. Coursework in Health Information Management, Healthcare Administration, or a related field preferred.Minimum of two years of experience in medical records, health information management, patient access, revenue cycle, or a related healthcare administrative setting.Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare documentation standards.Experience working within electronic health record (EHR) systems; Epic experience requiredUnderstanding of ICD-10 and CPT coding concepts.Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and Teams.Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to manage multiple priorities.Excellent customer service and communication skills.Experience handling confidential information in accordance with HIPAA regulations.Health Information ManagementDocument Management and IndexingHIPAA ComplianceMedical TerminologyPatient Information Retrieval and Record RequestJob Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Sacramento, CA.Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.90 - $24.90/hr.
