Responsibilities Job Summary Job ID: R-48203 Job Type: Part time Location: Great Bend, Kansas Position Summary / Career Interest: Under the supervision of the nursing department's management, the RN assumes the responsibility for the nursing processes of assessment, diagnosis, outcomes identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation needed to deliver safe, evidence based care within their scope of practice. Collects and assesses initial and on‑going data about the health status of the patient. Initiates and/or revises an individualized plan of care that includes immediate and long‑term outcomes for the patient/family and reflects the plan of the entire health care team. Carries out interventions safely and in compliance with policy to facilitate achievement of expected outcomes. Evaluates patient response to intervention/therapy based upon expected outcomes. Provides patient education by explaining procedures, medications and giving instructions at a level the patient can understand; addresses patient’s questions and concerns; verifies patient informed consent when indicated. Documents and communicates all required components of patient care. Provides direct patient care in the inpatient perioperative setting. Documents and communicates all required components of patient care on chart forms, birth certificates, and computer. Initiates fetal heart monitor, performs vaginal exams, interprets fetal heart tones and determines frequency, duration and intensity of contractions. Monitors progress of laboring mothers, interprets fetal heart monitor and notifies physician when appropriate for progress or problems. Assists mother and labor coach with breathing exercises, pain management techniques and administers pain medication as ordered. Prepares birthing room for delivery using strict sterile technique. Prepares mothers for elective or emergency Cesarean Section by following written C‑Section protocol. Provides emotional support to mother and coach, obtains proper consents and pre‑op diagnostic studies and coordinates smooth transfer to surgery. Works collaboratively with the physician and the anesthesia health care providers to determine patient needs undergoing surgical procedures and to assume responsibility for patient care, document and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing actions and ensure a safe environment of care. Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department. Required Education and Experience Associate Degree Nursing Bachelor Degree Nursing from an accredited college or university or must have plan to obtain BSN approved by chief nursing officer in some cases, the chief nursing officer may approve experience or certifications as a substitute for BSN requirement. Required Licensure and Certification Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) - Emergency Nurses Association (ENA) Trauma Care After Resuscitation - Trauma Care After Resuscitation (TCAR) PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support - American Heart Association (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 180 Days Licensed Registered Nurse (LRN) - Single State - State Board of Nursing in the State of Kansas or has a work permit from the State Board of Nursing. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS or BCLS) - American Heart Association (AHA) within 2 weeks of employment into the role. Preferred Licensure and Certification Ambulatory Care Nursing Certification (AMB‑BC) - American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC) STABLE Program - STABLE Program (S.T.A.B.L.E) within 1 year if applicable. Knowledge Requirements Knowledge of general nursing and practice required.
