Overview Vanderbilt University Medical Center (VUMC) Nurse Residency Program – Summer 2026 Cohort. 12‑month program for new graduate nurses or RNs with less than 6 months experience. Eligibility Graduate from an accredited nursing program. Pass NCLEX before program start date. Hold BLS certification before start date. Be able to work 36‑40 hours per week full‑time during the first year. Background check completed prior to employment. Application Timeline Current Vanderbilt employees: Jan 5‑12, 2026. All applicants: Jan 13‑Feb 15, 2026. Remaining openings: Feb 16‑Jun 1, 2026. Application Process (Steps) Submit application with resume, education, work history, and unit preferences; complete pre‑screen questions. Application reviewed, shared with department managers for next steps. Key Responsibilities Collaborate in establishing plan of care, coordinate and implement care delivery, anticipate patient needs. Analyze comprehensive information to determine nursing diagnosis. Utilize nursing process to evaluate progress toward goals and apply appropriate interventions. Employ strategies to promote health and a safe environment. Position Qualifications Licensure‑Registered Nurse required. Less than 1 year of relevant work experience.
