Job Summary

Join a high-acuity, fast-paced 34-bed Stroke Telemetry Unit in Elmira, New York, specializing in the comprehensive care of acute stroke and complex telemetry patients. This unit is dedicated to delivering evidence-based, protocol-driven care with a strong emphasis on patient safety, rapid intervention, and interdisciplinary collaboration. As a Registered Nurse on this unit, you will play a critical role in managing a diverse patient population, focusing on frequent neurological assessments, cardiac rhythm interpretation, and adherence to stroke core measures. The environment is high-turnover, requiring efficient management of admissions, discharges, and patient flow while maintaining a constant focus on patient safety and quality outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform and document frequent neurological assessments, including NIH Stroke Scale.
• Monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry rhythms, responding to changes in real-time.
• Ensure compliance with stroke core measures, including dysphagia screening, patient education, and care plan development.
• Administer medications safely and accurately following Barcode Medication Administration (BCMA) standards.
• Coordinate comprehensive patient care with an interdisciplinary team, including providers, therapists, and case management.
• Manage patient admissions, discharges, and flow efficiently in a high-turnover environment.
• Prioritize patient safety, including falls prevention and maintaining skin integrity.

Required Qualifications

• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
• Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Current NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.
• Demonstrated ability to read and interpret basic cardiac rhythm strips.
