About the Virginia Guesthouse Opening in April 2026, the Virginia Guesthouse is a 214‑room hotel featuring 25,000 square feet of conference and event space on the grounds of the University of Virginia. The property will serve guests, conference attendees, faculty, and students alike. Position Summary We are seeking a highly energetic and passionate individual to join our culinary team as a Prep Cook. The role requires creativity, motivation, and a commitment to developing skills in a professional kitchen setting. Responsibilities Develop knowledge and skills in various cooking procedures and methods (grill, sauté, and fry). Use knives and assorted kitchen equipment. Read and recreate recipes consistently. Prepare cold items, salads, simple side items, and appetizers. Wash, chop, and prepare ingredients, including meat and vegetables. Assist with inventory management to maintain proper par and stock levels. Mix and prepare cold sauces, meat glazes, jellies, salad dressings, and stuffing. Minimize food waste through cross‑utilization techniques. Work with a world‑class culinary team. Create workstations with all necessary ingredients and equipment. Maintain a sanitized and orderly kitchen environment. Ensure proper storage of all food and related items. Take responsibility for the quality of ingredients. Qualifications Active Food Handlers Certification or willingness to obtain one. Must be willing to work a variety of day, night, and weekend shifts. Strong organizational skills. Ability to work independently. Fitness for standing on feet for long periods. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. Minimum 21‑year‑old. Desire to exceed expectations. Energetic personality.
