Asst Vice President Enrollment

POSITION OBJECTIVE

The Assistant Vice President for Enrollment serves as a member of the enrollment management executive team and provides leadership for the undergraduate admission office while providing additional leadership support for the division of enrollment management. Central to this position is working with students, faculty, deans, the provost, and staff throughout the university to develop and implement a global recruitment strategy to achieve enrollment goals. Responsibilities include the successful implementation of a data-driven approach to student recruitment, both on campus and off, and yield enhancement using market research and analysis, segmentation, predictive modeling and geo-market analysis. Objectives include achieving enrollment goals, creating an office environment supportive of professional development, decision making, and an appreciation for different perspectives and life experiences. The assistant vice president for enrollment is the primary representative of the undergraduate admission office to Case Western Reserve University and of the undergraduate program to prospective students, parents, high school counselors, Case Western Reserve alumni and other admission offices nationally and internationally. The assistant vice president provides support to the vice president in leading the enrollment management division and works closely with other enrollment management departments in support of strategic and operational objectives. Essential Functions Provide overall vision and direction for first year and transfer admission consistent with the university mission, enrollment management goals and governing faculty policies. (10%) Provide leadership for the Undergraduate Admission staff. Hire and support admission staff, student receptionists and tour guides who represent the aspirations of the university as well as the students and parents who they serve. Create an environment supportive of professional development where staff feel valued and the contributions that they make to the admission effort are valued. (10%) Develop, implement, and monitor a recruitment and yield enhancement plan tied to the budget and driven by university and enrollment management strategic plans. This recruitment plan spans the admission cycle from high school sophomore to enrolled student (working with three cohorts at a time) and should also be data-driven. This plan must be developed with multiple constituencies in mind; prospective students, their parents, high school guidance counselors, alumni, faculty, and staff to name a few. It must also be regional, national, and international in nature. The plan must also be developed with a keen understanding of the impending shifts in high school graduates by region of the country and the ever changing enrollment landscape. (10%) Establish an application review process and selection criteria that achieves university enrollment goals. Responsible and accountable for all undergraduate admissions decisions. (10%) Provide leadership support to other enrollment management departments, including financial aid, recruitment and marketing, and enrollment operations, at the direction of the vice president for enrollment in support of strategic goals and operational efficiency and service improvements (8%) Travel to represent the university, 2 to 4 weeks in the fall and significant winter and spring travel, at high schools, college fairs, off campus information sessions and admitted student yield receptions. Meet with local alumni volunteers and other key constituents. Develop relationships with high school counselors through regular email communications, counselor breakfasts and visibility (frequently as a presenter) at regional national and international meetings. Present upon invitation at high schools across the country individually or on panels to school audiences as an expert on the college process and selective college admissions. Serve as one of the primary international recruitment travelers. (8%) Design and implement comprehensive campus visit program that hosts more than 20,000 visitors on campus each year. Monitor evaluations and continually enhance program to maximize effectiveness. (6%) Leverage current and emerging technologies including artificial intelligence in support of recruitment, evaluation, yield optimization, and student service (6%) Nonessential Functions Serve as the spokesperson for admission decisions both on campus and off (off campus constituencies frequently include regional and national media). (5%) Set performance goals and monitor job performance of all personnel in the undergraduate admission office. (5%) Challenge the admission staff both individually and as a team to provide the best possible service to the multitude of constituencies they serve with a goal of being the preeminent service providing undergraduate admission office amongst top 50 US News national universities. (5%) Establish clear benchmarks for measuring and predicting positive enrollment outcomes. Employ cutting edge projection techniques to predict enrollment outcomes and evaluate the effectiveness of recruitment and yield enhancement initiatives. (5%) Develop and monitor a budget in excess of $2 million for the undergraduate admission office. The budget must be tied to the recruitment plan and to the university's and enrollment management's strategic plans and must also be developed with input from the senior leadership and staff of the undergraduate admission office and the enrollment management executive team. (5%) Represent the admissions office at enrollment management executive team meetings which include the vice president for enrollment, director of financial aid, director of enrollment operations, and director of recruitment and strategic initiatives. Chair the meetings in the absence of the vice president. Convene the university undergraduate faculty committee for undergraduate admission. The committee meets on a monthly basis to discuss admission standards and recruitment practices. Committee members evaluate a select number of applications for admission and scholarships. Case Western Reserve faculty, administrators, and undergraduate students serve on the committee which is a subcommittee of the faculty senate committee on undergraduate education. serve as chair of the deans advisory group on recruitment (DAGOR) in the absence of the vice president. DAGOR meets monthly with the exception of most of March and April when it meets weekly to review current enrollment dynamics and recommend action. The committee is made up of deans or their designees, the provost and other senior administrators with a keen interest in university undergraduate enrollment. Serve on the university academic standing committee. Observe trends and use information to inform future admission decisions and influence support for students across campus. Serve as an active member of state and national professional associations such as The College Board, American Association of Collegiate Registrar and Admission Officers, and the National Association for College Admission Counseling. Supervisory Responsibilities Direct responsibility for director of undergraduate admission, director of orientation and new student transitions, 2 senior associate directors, associate director for events. Indirect responsibility for associate directors, assistant directors, regional recruiters, and admission counselors (total of 18.) Qualifications Experience: 10 years of professional experience in an institutional environment, with a record of achievement in selective undergraduate admissions. Education/Licensing: Master's degree required. Valid driver's license required. Required Skills Superior written and oral communication skills, highly organized, and strong interpersonal skills. Experience working as part of a team required. Expertise in facilitating organizational development and change. Advanced ability for analyzing recruitment-related data and assessing programming activities. Ability to work with the population. Creativity and energy highly valued. Demonstrated experience with state-of-the-art admission CRM, application evaluation and recruitment tools, both established and emerging, required. Demonstrated experience with data analysis tools required.Demonstrated experience providing leadership relative to implementing, integrating, and managing enrollment management data systems required. Demonstrated experience with the development, interpretation, and implementation of predictive models and artificial intelligence preferred. Ability to meet consistent attendance. Ability to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and customers face to face. Ability to demonstrate successful support, education, and advocacy for all students, aligned with the values, mission, and messaging of the university, while adhering to the staff policy on conflict of commitment and interest. Willingness to learn and work with Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and technologies.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Office setting, with meetings and activities in buildings throughout the campus. Periods of travel (including international travel), including weekends and evenings required. This position is eligible for hybrid work arrangement up to two remote days per week at the discretion of the department. New employees may begin a hybrid schedule upon approval from the supervisor, successful completion of an orientation period and signing the remote work checklist certification form.
