PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To assist the teacher in general daily classroom activities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification: High School Diploma/GED

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

Exhibit effective working relationships with students, staff and school community. Ability to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

Assist in small group pupil instruction and tutor students at teacher's request in either English or Spanish as needed. Plan and implement pre-kindergarten physical education instruction based on district provided curriculum. Help maintain discipline and other non-instructional functions. Record attendance information and related clerical functions with the teacher. Collaborate with the teacher to set up classroom and prepare materials for specialized instructional units. Assemble materials for bulletin boards and keep displays current. Operate standard school equipment such as laminator, copier, etc. Escort children to and from various rooms. Supervise students when teacher is temporarily absent Provide orientation and assistance to substitute teachers. Perform other duties as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Reading and comprehending simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; writing simple correspondence in English and Spanish. Present information in one-on-one and small group situations. Applying common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Occasional lifting and/or moving of up to 50 lbs. Standing, walking, talking, and hearing. Climbing, balancing, stooping kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
