The Director of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) provides strategic leadership for the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of faculty development initiatives that promote instructional excellence and student success. The Director leads institutional efforts to onboard, train, and support faculty in the adoption of evidence-based teaching practices, effective instructional design, and innovative andragogies across modalities.
This role requires an experienced educator with demonstrated expertise in faculty development and teaching effectiveness. The Director serves as a collaborative partner to academic leadership and faculty, fostering a culture of engagement, innovation, and continuous improvement aligned with institutional priorities.
Work Location:
- On-campus position based in Irvine, California
- This is not a remote role; remote applicants will not be considered
- May be required to travel to other campus locations as needed
- Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for faculty development aligned with institutional goals, accreditation standards, and student success metrics
- Promote instructional excellence by integrating evidence-based andragogy, inclusive teaching practices, and technology-enhanced learning
- Lead the CITL as a hub for innovation, collaboration, and professional growth
- Design and deliver onboarding programs for new faculty across all instructional modalities (in-person, hybrid, online)
- Develop and facilitate ongoing professional development workshops, certificates, and faculty learning communities focused on:
- Evidence-based teaching and learning strategies
- Assessment design and alignment
- Student engagement and retention strategies
- Inclusive and equitable teaching practices
- Provide individualized coaching and mentoring to faculty to enhance instructional effectiveness
- Promote adoption of high-impact teaching practices and emerging instructional technologies
- Establish and track metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of faculty development initiatives
- Analyze data (student outcomes, course evaluations, faculty feedback) to inform continuous improvement
- Ensure alignment with accreditation expectations related to teaching effectiveness and faculty qualifications
- Oversee CITL programming, scheduling, and resource development
- Collaborate with academic leadership to align faculty development with programmatic and institutional priorities
- Ability and willingness to work on-site in Irvine, California
- Flexibility to travel to other campus locations as needed
Required:
- Master’s degree required; Doctorate preferred in Education, Instructional Design, or a related field
- Minimum of 5–7 years of teaching experience in higher education
- Demonstrated experience in faculty development, training, or instructional coaching
- Strong knowledge of evidence-based teaching practices and adult learning theory (andragogy)
- Experience with curriculum design, assessment strategies, and learning outcomes alignment
- Excellent presentation, facilitation, and communication skills
Preferred:
- Experience with distance education and online teaching standards (e.g., Regular and Substantive Interaction, Quality Matters)
- Familiarity with accreditation and regulatory expectations in higher education
- Experience leading institutional initiatives or centers for teaching and learning
- Experience using learning technologies and Learning Management Systems (LMS)

Compensation:
- $90,000–$110,000 annually. Compensation is based on education and experience, and internal equity.
- A job-related assessment may be required during the interview process.
- Must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily and be physically present in the office (unless otherwise noted).
