We don’t just want your cooking skills. We want your ideas.

The Corner is a new neighborhood bar, restaurant, and lounge opening in Fairmont, West Virginia. We’re building a welcoming place with great food, great drinks, cold beer, and a relaxed atmosphere—and we’re looking for a creative, hands-on chef to help shape it from the beginning.

You won’t be handed a finished menu and told to follow it. We want you to help create it.

Have dishes you’ve always wanted to put on a menu? Ideas you haven’t had the opportunity to try? We want to hear them. You’ll work directly with ownership to develop a fresh, distinctive menu that fits The Corner and gives guests a reason to come back.

We have a vision for the atmosphere and experience. Your creativity should help define the food. That means contributing ideas, experimenting with recipes, tasting and refining dishes together, and building something you’re proud to put your name behind.

What You’ll Do

This is a hands-on cooking and leadership position—not a role spent watching from the sidelines.

• Help create the menu: Bring original ideas, develop and test recipes, establish portions and pricing, and keep things interesting with new dishes and specials.
• Build the kitchen’s routines: Help prepare for opening, organize equipment and ingredients, and establish recipes, prep lists, and practical daily procedures.
• Cook and lead: Work prep and service, maintain consistent quality and presentation, and train kitchen staff as needed.
• Make creativity work as a business: Manage ordering, inventory, food costs, and waste while maintaining a clean, organized, food-safe kitchen.

Who We’re Looking For

You may be an experienced chef, sous chef, kitchen manager, or a strong lead cook ready for more responsibility. A culinary degree is helpful, but not required. Your creativity, ability, reliability, and pride in your work matter more than your title.

We want someone who enjoys developing food—not just preparing it. Someone who can bring an idea to the table, take feedback, refine it, and make it consistently during a busy service.

You should be organized, communicate well, and be comfortable working closely with ownership and a small team. You’ll need to balance imagination with sensible food costs, efficient preparation, and the kind of quality guests can count on.

This is more than an opening to cook someone else’s recipes. It’s an opportunity to help build a restaurant’s identity.

Competitive compensation based on experience, a planned five-day workweek, and a meaningful role in building The Corner from day one. Evening and weekend availability is required.
