Night Shift Respiratory Therapist *Sign-on Bonus up to $20,000*

The Respiratory Care Practitioner provides restorative and interventional care to patients requiring respiratory therapy, whether for chronic or acute conditions. They administer various treatment modalities, monitor their effectiveness, and identify when alternative modalities should be used. The Respiratory Therapist is part of the critical care team, providing resuscitative measures when necessary, and acts as a resource to other patient care providers, leveraging their expertise in pulmonary medicine. They also perform EKGs, ABGs, and related duties. Responsibilities Review all physician orders before administering therapies, monitor for appropriateness, and clarify as needed. Perform patient assessments before and after therapies according to policies. Administer respiratory therapies per departmental policies and document patient responses. Evaluate patient responses to therapy and refer any adverse or unusual responses for further intervention. Suggest modifications to treatment plans based on patient assessments. Participate in patient and family education regarding therapy goals, medication use, breathing techniques, and equipment. Gather and update clinical data each shift, documenting according to policies. Utilize the clinical information system effectively. Operate and troubleshoot equipment in various settings per policies. Respond effectively in emergency situations, utilizing resuscitative techniques and airway management. Provide respiratory support for patients requiring transportation from NICU to adult care. Support systems during oxygen system failures. Participate in CQI activities. Perform EKGs and collect arterial blood specimens. Cross-trained staff may perform diagnostic testing and complete related paperwork. Manage and educate patients enrolled in pulmonary rehabilitation programs. Operate equipment safely, follow safety procedures, and maintain immunizations and safety protocols. Meet performance expectations in customer service, teamwork, resource utilization, and professional development. Perform other duties as assigned to ensure departmental operations. Qualifications Education: Graduate from an accredited School of Respiratory Therapy with RRT or CRT certification, with an 18-month window to obtain RRT credential. Additional certifications may be required for cross-training in other departments. Experience: Entry-level practitioners may begin with no experience but must acquire necessary skills during orientation and probation. Licensure: Current State of Connecticut license required. Special Skills: Cross-training in cardiology, pulmonary lab, or pulmonary rehabilitation preferred. Additional certifications such as ACLS, Pulmonary Function Technologist, and others may be required depending on cross-training areas. #J-18808-Ljbffr
