Qualifications:
- Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) and strong command of English
- Experience interpreting in educational settings, especially K-12 environments
- Ability to adhere to the Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf (RID) Code of Ethics
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or equivalent credentials preferred
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Adaptability and professionalism when supporting a diverse student population
Responsibilities:
- Interpret classroom instruction, discussions, and school activities for students who require sign language services
- Facilitate communication between students, teachers, staff, and peers to promote full inclusion
- Provide interpretation services during meetings, assemblies, and extracurricular events as needed
- Support individualized education plans (IEPs) by working closely with special education staff
- Maintain confidentiality and a safe environment for all students
- Adjust interpreting techniques to suit various educational contexts and student needs
