The Mette is an elevated cocktail and wine bar opening in the heart of Wilmette, focused on exceptional hospitality, curated beverages, and a thoughtfully executed food program. We are seeking an experienced and passionate Kitchen Manager to help lead our kitchen operations and build a strong culinary culture from the ground up.Position Overview
The Kitchen Manager will oversee all back-of-house operations, ensuring consistency, cleanliness, efficiency, and high-quality food execution. This individual will play a key leadership role in managing kitchen staff, maintaining standards, controlling inventory and costs, and supporting the overall guest experience.
Responsibilities- Lead daily kitchen operations in a fast-paced hospitality environment
- Hire, train, schedule, and manage kitchen staff
- Ensure food quality, consistency, and presentation standards are maintained
- Maintain cleanliness and compliance with all health and safety regulations
- Manage inventory, ordering, and vendor relationships
- Monitor food and labor costs while maximizing efficiency
- Collaborate with ownership and management on menu development and seasonal offerings
- Ensure smooth communication between front and back of house teams
- Maintain prep systems, organization, and operational standards
- Assist during service and support the team wherever needed
- 3+ years of kitchen management or leadership experience
- Strong knowledge of kitchen operations, food safety, and sanitation standards
- Experience with inventory management and cost control
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Passion for hospitality, teamwork, and creating memorable guest experiences
- Experience in upscale casual dining, wine bars, or cocktail-focused concepts preferred
