About the Role
Robert Half is seeking a detail-oriented Accounts Payable Clerk for a contract opportunity with a well-established construction company in Meriden, Connecticut. This position is ideal for an accounting professional who enjoys working in a fast-paced environment and has experience managing high-volume invoice processing and vendor payments.
The Accounts Payable Clerk will play a key role in supporting daily accounting operations and ensuring the timely and accurate processing of financial transactions.
Responsibilities
- Process a high volume of vendor invoices accurately and efficiently
- Verify invoice coding and obtain appropriate approvals
- Match invoices to purchase orders and receiving documentation
- Prepare and process weekly check runs and electronic payments
- Reconcile vendor statements and investigate discrepancies
- Communicate with vendors regarding payment status and account inquiries
- Maintain organized accounts payable files and records
- Assist with month-end closing activities and account reconciliations
- Enter and maintain accounting data within the ERP or accounting system
- Support the accounting team with additional projects as needed
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree in Accounting or Finance preferred
- 2+ years of accounts payable or accounting support experience
- Experience processing high-volume invoices
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and accounting software
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous accounts payable experience within the construction industry
- Familiarity with purchase orders, subcontractor invoices, and job costing
- Experience working with ERP systems or construction accounting software
Schedule
- Full-time, Monday through Friday
- Standard business hours
- Contract assignment with immediate start available
