Registered Nurse (RN) | Behavioral Health Adult C Unit

Position Details Location: Avera Behavioral Health Center – Sioux Falls Work Shift: Rotating days, evenings, nights, weekends, holidays (U.S.) Pay Range: $32.50 – $48.50 per hour, dependent on experience Sign‑On Bonus: Up to $15,000 (eligible for nurses with 3+ years experience, every 3rd weekend, every other holiday) Unit Highlights 26‑bed Adult C Unit designed for structured therapeutic care of adults with anxiety, depression, personality disorders, and suicidal behavior 7‑8 patient to 1 RN ratio Flexible scheduling program available Student Loan Repayment Program: $167 monthly extra payment (up to $10,000) Overview Provide nursing care in a structured, therapeutic environment for adults, assisting patients in understanding their diagnosis, developing a crisis response plan, learning coping skills, and setting and completing goals. Responsibilities Review physician prescriptions and communicate the nursing care plan to the healthcare team Coordinate with other healthcare providers and assist in patient care planning Provide physical, emotional, psychological, and spiritual support to patients, families, and friends Develop nursing care plans based on medical histories, patient examinations, and family input; establish nursing diagnoses, objectives, interventions, schedules, and timetables Teach patients, families, and friends about conditions, medications, and self‑care skills; answer questions and provide resources Evaluate patient care against therapeutic standards, monitor health outcomes, and modify care plans as needed Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy patient care environment; enforce infection‑control policies, medication and controlled‑substance regulations, and organizational standards Document patient care services thoroughly in patient and department records, charting, and other documentation systems Maintain patient‑care equipment by following operating instructions, troubleshooting, performing preventive maintenance, and arranging repairs Ensure patient‑care supplies are ready by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing orders, and verifying receipts Maintain competence in nursing capabilities as outlined by leadership and in the RN scope of practice Qualifications Registered Nurse (RN) with an active state nursing license; Board of Nursing Ability to work the specified rotating shifts and weekends/holidays Visual acuity adequate for nursing duties; good hearing and ability to understand and distinguish speech Effective communication skills with patients, families, and interprofessional team members Experience working in a clinical environment (1–3 years preferred) Expectations and Standards Commit to the daily application of Avera’s mission, vision, core values, and social principles Promote Avera’s values of compassion, hospitality, and stewardship Uphold Avera’s standards of Communication, Attitude, Responsiveness, and Engagement (CARE) Maintain confidentiality and professionalism Work effectively in a team environment, coordinating workflow with other team members for efficiency Comply with safety regulations, CMS, Joint Commission, DHHS, and OSHA (where applicable) Benefits Paid Time Off (PTO) available starting day 1 for eligible hires Up to 5% employer matching contribution for retirement Career development through hands‑on training and mentorship Student Loan Repayment Program: $167 monthly payment toward principal up to $10,000 Equal Opportunity Employer Avera is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
