About the Position

Job Title: Registered Nurse Profession: Nursing Specialty: Step Down Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 12 hours Experience: Minimum of 1.5 years of Step Down or Progressive Care experience required. License: Active state RN license or compact license required. Certifications: BLS and ACLS required. Must-Have: Must have vent experience. Must have EPIC experience. Must pass an online EKG tele competency assessment before starting the assignment. Description: This role involves working in a step-down unit that is trialing a team nursing model. The team nursing model consists of two nurses and a patient care technician caring for a group of patients. The goal is to enhance patient care by distributing the work among team members rather than dividing the patients. Targeted patient ratios are aimed to be 1:4 but can extend up to 1:5 or 1:6. Candidates must possess experience with monitoring and managing ventilator-dependent patients. Experience should involve care for patients with conditions such as COPD, CHF, pneumonia, and post-COVID. The unit supports complex needs including tracheostomy care, high-flow oxygen requirements, and management of intravenous infusions including insulin and heparin. Candidates must be proficient in reading and interpreting cardiac telemetry and dysrhythmias. Floating may occur within specialty clusters based on the unit's needs. Availability to work every other weekend and holiday is required. The unit emphasizes teamwork and collaboration among staff to provide high-quality patient care. Candidates should be comfortable adapting to different nursing roles within the team nursing model.
