Volunteer

This is a volunteer opportunity provided by Taproot Foundation, a nonprofit creating social change through pro bono connections. With a skilled volunteer, I want to create a real multi-channel, comprehensive communications strategy for Flash Forward, something we can point to and say "this is our plan," not just another one-off post or graphic. Right now we're figuring things out as we go: we've started posting Instagram reels, but there's no strategy behind what we post, when, or why. Flash Forward is a student-led 501(c)(3) that designs, builds, and ships solar-powered flashlights, at about $5.17 each, to students in Ghana, Bangladesh, the DRC, and Vietnam who currently study after dark by kerosene lamp. We\'ve already sent our first flashlights overseas and are racing toward 200 shipped before the college application season ends. What\'s slowing us down now isn\'t engineering. It\'s that nobody outside our network knows we exist yet. Right now our marketing runs on instinct: a scattered LinkedIn post here, a Discord announcement there, because we don\'t have anyone dedicated to communications strategy. This project changes that. Help us define our target audience, sharpen our core message, and pick the right channels, and you\'ll be building the foundation our next phase of growth stands on. Bigger volunteer pipelines. More partner schools and NGOs willing to distribute our lights. More donors who understand why a $5 flashlight can change whether a kid finishes their homework or falls behind. Your strategy won\'t sit in a slide deck. Our team will execute it directly, using it to guide every social post, partner email, and campaign we run from here forward. You\'ll be able to point to the flashlights reaching students in four countries and know your plan is what got the word out that made it possible. To set this project up for success, we\'re ready to give the volunteer direct access to how we already communicate. We have a Discord where our team talks day to day, plus phone and email if that\'s a better fit. We\'re flexible on how we work together and happy to adjust to whatever communication style helps the volunteer do their best work, whether that\'s quick Discord check-ins, scheduled calls, or async email updates. We\'ll also share what we\'ve already tried (the reels, our messaging so far, our audience so far) so the volunteer isn\'t starting from zero.
