Principal Engineer

Professional Civil Engineer

Professional Civil Engineer working in the planning design, construction, inspection and maintenance of a variety of public works projects and facilities.

Responsibilities include:

• Design and development of construction plans and specifications for roads, bridges, water supply systems, street lights, street parking, sanitary sewer systems, stormwater management systems, and other public works facilities.
• Review field surveys to develop information required for design and construction of public works projects.
• Review plans for public works projects for compliance with standards.
• Review engineering reports, basis of design reports, and regulatory compliance filings; ensure that reports are detailed, methodical, and provide clear logic for engineering designs and decisions.
• Make recommendations for upgrades and improvements to city facilities.
• Supervise the preparation of cost estimates for public works projects.
• Develop engineering procedures.
• Supervise the inspection of various public works construction projects.
• Perform related work as required.
• Perform the duties of a Project Engineer, when required.
• Develop maintenance of traffic plans.

Minimum requirements include:

• Ability to communicate clearly, concisely, and comprehensibly in both written and verbal formats.
• Currently registered as a Professional Engineer by the State of Florida.
• Capable of signing and sealing engineering drawings and documents in accordance with the rules of the Florida Board of Professional Engineers and Florida Statute 61G15-23.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with elected officials, coworkers, the press, the general public, and members of diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds regardless of race, religion, age, sex, disability, political affiliation, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
• Ability to serve the public and fellow employees with honesty and integrity in full accord with the letter and spirit of all city ethics and conflicts of interest policies. Strong understanding of ethical behavior is required.
• Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.
• Performs related work as required.
• Reports to work as directed during an emergency as an essential employee of the City of Miami Beach.
• Ability to develop innovative and creative solutions to issues consistent with the City's strategic plan.
