Aia - Interior Designer Level I
JCJ Architecture is seeking an Interior Designer Level I with 3 or more years' experience. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, plus three to five years of related experience. Certification as a licensed professional is preferred but not required.
The role involves generating architectural concepts for interior projects, including furniture and equipment planning, special design concepts and requirements, floor plan analysis, condition of building site, personal property, integrated structural components, mechanical and electrical and visual design concepts, including material. The candidate will be responsible for carrying out these design assignments requiring the development of new or improved techniques or design. They will normally work through the project to the middle point of construction work, then required to follow up with the construction team. They will work with a senior-level designer on more complex projects.
The candidate will demonstrate working knowledge of conceptual, schematic, design development construction documentation and construction administration phases on assigned projects. They will maintain and initiate frequent communication with JCJ team members to sustain proper information flow. They will fully participate in designated project meetings, both virtual and in-person. They will develop proficiency at written communication in email and virtual communication via JCJ virtual meeting software. They will prepare meeting notes using standard JCJ formats under supervision of Project team leadership. They will maintain an ongoing vigilance about self-checking work and conveying questions or concerns to Project team leadership. They will adhere to established project schedules and JCJ established conventions for digital file keeping. They will coordinate work with internal JCJ project team and sub-consultants. They will participate in the preparation and delivery of presentations to clients both physically and virtually. They will further refine a portfolio in one market sector.
The candidate will demonstrate creativity in design and the ability to adapt design solutions to a variety of building types. They will understand and embrace the architectural design approach as established by the Project Leadership and demonstrate the ability to integrate interior design with architecture to create a unified statement. They will implement design direction that is cognizant of construction methods and coordination with engineering disciplines. They will demonstrate a working knowledge of the conventions of space planning; including proper/legal clearances, awareness of human scale and ergonomics, functional organization and three-dimensional implications of planning. They will assist with development of design solutions. They will select and present multiple schemes to internal and client team. They will demonstrate a working knowledge of the application of function, price points, lead times and durability of products and systems being recommended for use within projects. They will demonstrate facile computer aided visualization skills via multiple software applications to support development and presentation of design concepts. They will share knowledge of these applications with team members. They will research manufacturers and select appropriate colors, finishes and materials from viewpoint of function, client preference, aesthetics and cost; coordinate with team members, and incorporate accurate information into drawings. On certain projects, they will delegate the task of selections to junior staff. They will support business development activities by creating presentation collateral including digital or physical finish boards, visual slide-deck presentations. This may require coordination with JCJ's business development and marketing teams. They will select and present multiple FF&E schemes to internal and client team. They will understand appropriate application of function, price points, lead times and durability of products being recommended for use within projects. They will maintain an up to date level of awareness of fashion, industry and cultural design trends.
The candidate will produce building project documentation from concept through construction documents. They will obtain and assemble data to complete drawings. They will learn to create detail drawings for such items as architectural millwork, furniture case goods, custom furniture, tile and stonework. They will create Interior Finish lists and Finish location plans and elevations. They will develop awareness and application of industry construction best practices. They will remain current with JCJ Technical Bulletins. They will produce construction documents under the direction of the Project Architect, utilizing architectural graphic conventions of line weight, scale and sheet organization. They will adhere to JCJ conventions for Revit/AutoCAD standards, file and drawing organization. They will perform site observation, including photographic and dimensional notes to document existing conditions; coordinate with Project Team. They will accurately perform numeric tasks such as square footage calculations, furniture and device counts, and material quantity take offs for budgeting purposes. They will assemble collected information into budget formats that allow for assigning costs. On certain projects, they will delegate this task to junior staff. They will demonstrate knowledge about Building, ADA and Life/Fire safety codes, their industry wide applications and impact upon space planning. They will understand how to interpret applicable local, federal and state accessibility, building and fire codes.
The candidate will actively maintain resource materials and data base in physical and digital libraries. They will demonstrate and refine knowledge of Furniture, Fixtures, Equipment and Material costs. They will demonstrate the ability to create FF & E specifications and FF and E location plans and budgets using JCJ established software and formats. They will assist in preparation and bid tabulation of FF&E bid documents under the supervision of Senior Leadership. They will develop and coordinate Interior Finish lists and tagging of Finish location plans and elevations. They will coordinate with JCJ Specifications team. They will demonstrate ability to make financial recommendations to clients. They will coordinate with 3rdparty FF and E procurement companies. They will implement cost management strategies at the direction of Senior Leadership.
The candidate will actively participate in value engineering exercises, both to suggest alternatives and to incorporate accepted changes. They will answer RFI's, under direction of Senior Leadership. Using JCJ software, they will learn and assist in shop drawing, submittal review and file management for construction and ff and e procurement under direction of Senior Leadership. They will coordinate with construction manager/contractor/procurement client team. They will attend regular construction phase meetings. They will coordinate with JCJ internal CA team and processes. They will assume special projects and duties as assigned or requested.
Job Requirements and Qualifications:
Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in design or equivalent work experience. 3+ years' experience in interior design, design management and design services. 2+ years creating interior design solutions.
Training Requirements (licenses, programs, or certificates): Professional Registration (preferred but not required). Advanced Computer and Information Management Skills (AutoCAD, Revit)

Other Information:
Travel to work sites and other offices may be required. Ability to work overtime. Available for client issues and communication after hours.
