Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced  Ambulance Billing Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience billing  ambulance runs , submitting claims to insurance companies, and working with the unique documentation and billing requirements associated with emergency medical transportation.

Experience working directly for or within an  ambulance/EMS company is strongly preferred. The successful candidate should understand the ambulance industry, be comfortable reviewing patient care reports (PCRs), and have the ability to identify and resolve billing issues efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

• Review ambulance run documentation and patient care reports for billing accuracy and completeness.

• Prepare and submit claims for ambulance transportation services to Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurance, and other payers.

• Verify patient demographics, insurance coverage, eligibility, and benefits.

• Apply appropriate ambulance billing codes, modifiers, mileage, and other applicable charges.

• Follow up on unpaid, rejected, and denied ambulance claims.

• Research and resolve claim denials, billing discrepancies, and payment issues.

• Post insurance and patient payments accurately.

• Process patient statements and assist with outstanding patient balances.

• Communicate with insurance companies, patients, and internal operations staff regarding billing questions.

• Maintain accurate billing records and documentation.

• Stay current with payer requirements and ambulance billing regulations.

• Work closely with operations and clinical staff to obtain missing or corrected documentation when necessary.

• Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.

• Assist with other billing and accounts receivable duties as needed.

Required Qualifications

• Previous experience with  ambulance/EMS billing is strongly preferred.

• Experience billing ambulance runs and reviewing ambulance patient care reports (PCRs).

• Previous experience working for or within an  ambulance company, EMS organization, or medical transportation company is highly preferred.

• Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and commercial insurance billing.

• Understanding of ambulance billing requirements, mileage, modifiers, and medical necessity documentation.

• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

• Excellent organizational and follow-up skills.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple accounts and deadlines.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and billing software.

Preferred Experience

• 1–3+ years of medical or ambulance billing experience.

• Experience with  electronic claims submission and clearinghouses .

• Experience working with ambulance billing software.

• Knowledge of Medicare ambulance transportation guidelines.

• Experience with denial management and accounts receivable follow-up.

• Prior experience working in an ambulance service or EMS environment.
