Examiner Nurse Practitioner

POSITION PURPOSE As an Examiner, you will be conducting Compensation & Pension (C&P) Examinations for Veterans applying for disability compensation from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in relation to their in‑service injury claims. The role involves reviewing the claim, performing focused assessments of claimed injuries, reviewing medical records, and potentially rendering a medical opinion based on the record review and completed C&P exam. Charting from home may be required. By providing an exceptional experience during these examinations we aim to positively impact each Veteran. These Medical Disability Examinations are crucial to the VA’s process for determining benefits Veterans can receive because of service‑connected health issues. Our clinical insights play a key role in facilitating access to treatment subspecialists and ensuring continuity of care for those who need it the most. Clinical examiners will use a web‑based examination form in a proprietary online system to capture patient information throughout the process. Qualified candidates must hold an active license, work independently and collaboratively, demonstrate strong people skills, be adaptable to changing situations, and have basic computer skills. Pay Rate: $142,875.20 - $172,875.20 JOB RESPONSIBILITIES Conduct comprehensive medical disability examinations, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and assessing the impact of disabilities on daily life and functional abilities. Review and analyze medical records, diagnostic test results, and other pertinent documentation to gain a comprehensive understanding of the veteran’s medical history and health condition. Render objective medical opinions based on examination findings and medical record review, regarding the extent of the veteran’s health issues and their impact on ability to work and daily activities. Maintain case management workflow, including organizing workload, submitting findings, and corresponding with the Quality Assurance Team. Collaborate with healthcare professionals, specialists, and experts to obtain additional medical information for a thorough evaluation. Document examination findings in clear and concise reports following VA guidelines and contractual obligations. Partner with all Loyal Source departments to gain support and use resources for task completion and deadline management. Manage time effectively and schedule C&P exams, ensuring availability and timely submission. Ensure compliance with laws, regulations, and standards related to disability examinations, maintaining high accuracy and quality. Work with the QA team to submit thorough and accurate examination findings. Maintain compliance with all VA training requirements and stay updated on VA MDE program requirements. Safeguard confidentiality of patient information and exam results per HIPAA compliance. QUALIFICATIONS Graduate of a school of professional nursing accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, with an active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner license. At least 1 year of experience working as a Nurse Practitioner. Preferred experience in conducting medical disability examinations or related field. Basic Life Support certification, including renewals. Previous military experience or familiarity with military/veteran communities is preferred. Completion of specialized training or continuing education in Medical Disability Evaluations, occupational health, or related areas is advantageous. Proficient in conducting comprehensive medical assessments, interpreting diagnostic tests, and formulating evidence‑based medical opinions. Empathetic, compassionate, and patient‑centered approach towards patients. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills for complex medical information. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, able to convey complex medical concepts clearly. Unwavering commitment to ethics, integrity, and fairness in evaluations. Meticulous focus on accuracy, data quality, and alignment with LS and VA standards. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Excellent organizational and time‑management skills to manage multiple initiatives. Strong customer focus and sense of urgency. Authorized to work in the United States, including compliance with federal contractor requirements. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS Reasoning Ability: Ability to apply common sense, conduct detailed instructions, and solve problems with few variables. Technological Ability: Competent in MS Word, MS Outlook, Adobe PDF, web-based platforms, electronic medical records systems; familiarity with Teams and web-based LMS preferred. Physical Requirements: Prolonged periods standing and sitting at a desk, working on a computer; must be able to lift up to fifteen pounds and have full range of motion to conduct physical examinations. Travel Requirements: 10% travel supporting other clinics; additional travel for training or company events.
