Bar Card Intern - District Attorney - Criminal

The Bar Card Intern performs professional legal work and administrative services for the legal department under the supervision of a qualified attorney. Responsibilities include prosecuting jury and non‑jury trials, negotiating settlements, preparing briefs, motions, and other legal documents, conducting legal research, and managing court dockets. Responsibilities Attend daily docket calls, consult weekly docket lists, obtain and review case files, and advise courtroom on docket procedures. Answer phones and address inquiries regarding witness issues and case status. Perform administrative duties related to docket management, new‑case intake, and case preparation. Prepare and conduct hearings on probation revocations, adjudications of guilt, open plea hearings, motions to suppress, and other scheduled court hearings. Participate in all phases of court trial, including opening statements, presentation of the state’s case, rebuttal of the defense, and the punishment phase. Prepare misdemeanor cases for trial: review files, advise and negotiate with parties, provide discovery, confer with law enforcement and judicial personnel, follow up with witnesses, locate witnesses and defendants, interview victims and witnesses, investigate incidents, visit crime scenes, and examine physical evidence. Request jury charges, prepare voir dire examinations, review jury lists, and conduct jury selection. Perform various administrative duties in support of the court and department, and oversee processes for new case intake. Maintain regular and punctual attendance. Perform other related duties as required. Qualifications Doctorate degree required. Must possess a 3rd‑Year Bar Card (Supervised Practice Card) in the State of Texas and be in good standing with the Texas Bar.
