26-27 Ay Teaching Associate (Ta) - Plant Science (Fresno)

Position Overview Teaching Associates (TA) in the Department of Plant Science provide classroom instruction for a variety of plant science courses. Eligibility is determined by department criteria and adequate funding. Responsibilities Teach and manage classroom and laboratory sections. Create or implement course design and assignment sequence. Prepare course materials and classroom activities. Respond to and evaluate student writing. Assess student performance and assign course grades. Assist students outside of class during office hours or appointments. Attend TA orientation at the beginning of the semester. Participate in programmatic assessment procedures. Maintain office hours and evaluate student work. Qualifications Admission to the Master of Science Program in the Department of Plant Science in good academic standing. Enrollment in at least 6 units for the semester or two courses toward the degree. Satisfactory progress toward the degree. Ability to relate well with others and a potential to learn how to instruct and evaluate students. Commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse backgrounds. Hours & Compensation Students may work up to 20 hours per week. One unit equals 2.66 hours per week. Typical ranges: labs 1.3–5.2 units; lectures 3–6 units; maximum 7.5 units. Salary is based on weighted teaching units; base salary varies by department. Appointment Dates Fall: August 19 – December 22. Spring: January 15 – May 26. Position open until filled.
