Observation Unit Registered Nurse (RN)

Seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join the Observation Unit team. The ideal candidate will possess strong clinical skills and a background in intermediate medication management. This position requires a commitment to providing high-quality care to adults and geriatric patients with various diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients in the observation unit, ensuring adherence to established protocols and standards.
• Monitor patient conditions, administer medications (including heparin, nitroglycerin, cardizem, and insulin), and document care using EPIC.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop and implement patient-centered care plans.
• Educate patients and families regarding their conditions, medications, and discharge instructions.
• Facilitate a fast-paced care environment aimed at achieving a length of stay goal of 18-24 hours.
• Float between various units as needed, including Telemetry, Neuro/Stroke, Cardiac, and others.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a medical surgical or telemetry setting.
• Charge experience is required.
• Current certifications in ACLS, BCLS, and NIH are mandatory.
• Observation Medicine experience is preferred.
• Ability to work weekends, with a requirement of every other weekend.
• Must be comfortable with floating within the service line and between multiple locations as necessary.

The Registered Nurse will provide care for adult and geriatric patients with conditions such as:

• Chest pain
• Abdominal pain
• Atrial Fibrillation
• Transient Ischemic Attack (TIA)
• Anemia/GI Bleed
• Dehydration/Acute Kidney Injury (AKI)
• Syncope and Vertigo
• Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and Asthma
• Urinary Tract Infection/Pyelonephritis
• Headache/Migraine
• Congestive Heart Failure (CHF)
• Seizures
• Carbon Monoxide Poisoning
• Pancreatitis
• Cellulitis
• Post-operative surgery complications

Work Environment

This position is located in a Level I trauma center, known for being the largest acute care facility in the region. Nurses will work primarily in the Observation Unit, which emphasizes teamwork, efficient patient care delivery, and ongoing professional development.
