Police Officer

Overview We are hiring a Correction Officer for the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction. The position is based at Trumbull Correctional Institution and is full‑time. Maintain control of the institution to ensure safety and security of the facility, inmates, staff, and the public by enforcing rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Supervise and direct inmate activity in assigned areas. Ensure the assigned area is clean, safe, and secure. Monitor and operate security controls, equipment, and computer systems. Operate automotive vehicles for perimeter security and inmate transportation. Conduct inmate counts, security rounds, and searches. Complete required reports and serve on committees. Prevent escapes or incidents that threaten security. Use physical force, unarmed self‑defense, firearms, or other force when necessary to detain or secure inmates. Compensation Step 1 salary of $24.88 per hour, increased to Step 2 at $25.61 after six months. Earn an additional $0.60 per hour when working a second or third shift. Qualifications High school diploma or GED required. Valid driver’s license required for transportation assignments; a commercial driver’s license is required for assignments involving commercial vehicles. Must have successfully passed the Correction Officer Assessment or completed it within the past 24 months, or be a current employee who has previous correction officer certification. Probationary period of 365 days.
