Research Finance Analyst

Job Description Use skills as a seasoned, experienced administrator to independently manage the financial and post‑award components of research, awards, and transactions related to contract and grant management, while maintaining contract and grant records in compliance with institutional research sponsor policies. Work on proposals and awards of diverse scope, requiring thorough understanding of complex regulations. Complete and approve transactions for signature by a manager or other authorized institutional official, manage complex grants and contracts involving multiple investigators and sub‑awards, and guide less experienced staff. Department Overview The Division of Hematology/Oncology is one of the largest and most complex divisions in the Department of Medicine. It supports a faculty of 100 full‑time scholars, multiple fellows, post‑doctoral researchers, and a dedicated team of Research Financial Analysts who provide high‑level financial analyses and serve as the primary point of contact for research financial issues. Responsibilities Organize, plan, establish, and monitor fiscal budget control of contracts and grants, gifts, endowments, and privately funded projects for faculty research programs. Provide post‑award financial administration and management for research funds in accordance with organizational policy and agency requirements. Monitor spending and reconciling financial transactions to ensure compliance with university and sponsor requirements. Prepare and submit financial reports and invoices in a timely manner. Provide guidance and counsel on complex research administration matters, including compliance regulations, to principal investigators and division management. Review award letters and budgets with PI and other stakeholders to ensure adherence to funding agency and campus policies. Manage and monitor finances of all research accounts of assigned faculty, initiating necessary accounting transactions to maintain account integrity. Communicate with OSR and other stakeholders throughout the entire post‑award process. Generate financial reports for non‑federal sponsoring agencies and review federal FFRs prepared by CGA. Coordinate payroll distribution changes, cost transfers, ledger reconciliations, and assist with audits. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, business, or related area. 3 or more years of relevant experience or equivalent training and experience. Efficient time‑management and ability to multi‑task in a high‑volume environment. Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting. Understanding of general‑fund accounting, purchasing, budgeting, and financial projection. Excellent computer skills and proficiency with MS Excel (sorting, pivot tables, filtering, basic formulas). Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles and fiscal reporting. Competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software for financial analysis and reporting. Strong organization, communication, and customer‑service skills across diverse subject areas. Strong interpersonal skills at all levels within the organization and advanced critical‑thinking skills. Strong writing skills and ability to present complex financial information clearly and concisely. Preferred Qualifications: Previous working experience in an academic environment. Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of federal and non‑federal sponsors. Knowledge of compliance requirements related to human/animal subjects, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc. Maintains current knowledge of compliance regulations in all research administration areas.
