Safety Manager

Job DescriptionPOSITION SUMMARY\nThe Safety Manager is responsible for leading, developing, implementing, and maintaining safety and environmental programs across two manufacturing facilities. This position provides hands-on safety leadership to ensure safe working conditions, regulatory compliance, effective employee training, and continuous improvement of the organization’s safety culture.\n\nThe Safety Manager will work closely with plant leadership, supervisors, Human Resources, employees, and corporate leadership to identify and control workplace hazards, investigate incidents, implement corrective actions, and ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, state, and local requirements.\n\nThis is a multi-site position requiring regular presence and active involvement at both manufacturing facilities.\n\nESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.\nSafety Program Management\n\n Develop, implement, maintain, and continuously improve company safety policies, procedures, and programs for both manufacturing locations.\n Ensure consistent safety standards and expectations are established across both facilities.\n Maintain required written safety programs, including but not limited to:\n Lockout/Tagout (LOTO)\n Hazard Communication\n Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)\n Emergency Action and Fire Prevention\n Confined Space\n Bloodborne Pathogens\n Respiratory Protection\n Hearing Conservation\n Powered Industrial Trucks\n Crane and Hoist Safety\n Machine Guarding\n Fall Protection\n Hot Work\n Contractor Safety\n Review programs regularly and update them based on regulatory changes, operational changes, incidents, and identified hazards.\n\nRegulatory Compliance\n\n Ensure compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, state, and local safety and environmental regulations.\n Serve as the primary point of contact for safety-related regulatory inspections and inquiries.\n Coordinate and participate in OSHA inspections and other regulatory visits.\n Maintain required OSHA records, including OSHA 300, 301, and 300A documentation.\n Monitor regulatory changes and communicate applicable requirements to management.\n Conduct periodic compliance audits at both facilities and develop corrective action plans for identified deficiencies.\n\nTraining and Employee Development\n\n Develop, coordinate, and conduct required safety training for employees at both locations.\n Maintain accurate records of employee safety training and certifications.\n Ensure new employees receive appropriate safety orientation and job-specific safety training.\n Coordinate refresher and annual training as required.\n Work with supervisors to ensure employees understand and follow established safety procedures.\n Provide supervisors and managers with coaching and resources to effectively address safety concerns within their departments.\n\nIncident and Near-Miss Management\n\n Lead or assist with investigations of workplace injuries, illnesses, property damage, near misses, and other safety incidents.\n Conduct root cause analyses and identify appropriate corrective and preventive actions.\n Track corrective actions through completion and verify their effectiveness.\n Review incident trends across both facilities to identify recurring hazards and opportunities for improvement.\n Partner with Human Resources and management on workers’ compensation cases and return-to-work activities as appropriate.\n Evaluate workplace injuries and illnesses for OSHA recordability.\n\nHazard Identification and Risk Reduction\n\n Conduct routine safety inspections and observations throughout both manufacturing facilities.\n Identify unsafe conditions, unsafe behaviors, and opportunities for risk reduction.\n Perform or coordinate job hazard analyses/job safety analyses for manufacturing operations.\n Participate in the review of new equipment, processes, chemicals, and facility changes to identify safety concerns before implementation.\n Work with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, and other departments to develop practical solutions for identified hazards.\n Ensure corrective actions are documented, assigned, tracked, and completed in a timely manner.\n\nSafety Culture and Employee Engagement\n\n Maintain a visible presence on the manufacturing floor and actively engage employees regarding workplace safety.\n Lead or coordinate Safety Team meetings and employee safety initiatives.\n Encourage employee reporting of hazards, near misses, and improvement opportunities.\n Develop safety communications, toolbox talks, awareness campaigns, and other employee engagement activities.\n Promote accountability for safety at all levels of the organization.\n Recognize positive safety performance and encourage proactive employee involvement.\n\nEmergency Preparedness\n\n Maintain emergency action and fire prevention plans for both facilities.\n Coordinate and document emergency drills, including fire evacuation and severe weather drills.\n Ensure emergency equipment, evacuation routes, first aid supplies, eyewash stations, and other emergency resources are appropriately maintained and inspected.\n Coordinate first aid/CPR/AED training and maintain an appropriate number of trained responders.\n Assist plant leadership in responding to workplace emergencies.\n\nSafety Metrics and Reporting\n\n Track and analyze safety performance metrics for both facilities.\n Monitor leading and lagging indicators, including injuries, recordable incidents, lost-time incidents, near misses, safety observations, training completion, and corrective actions.\n Prepare regular safety reports and updates for plant and corporate leadership.\n Identify trends and recommend initiatives to improve safety performance.\n Establish annual safety goals and improvement priorities in partnership with plant leadership.\n\nMulti-Site Responsibilities\n\n Provide consistent safety leadership and support to both manufacturing facilities.\n Maintain a regular schedule between facilities based on operational and safety needs.\n Ensure safety programs, training, documentation, and expectations are consistently implemented at both locations.\n Build effective working relationships with leadership and employees at each facility.\n Respond to significant safety incidents or regulatory concerns at either facility as needed.\n Travel between company locations as required.\n\n\nQUALIFICATIONS\n Experience with environmental compliance and hazardous material management is beneficial.\n Experience working with machining, welding, painting/coating operations, material handling equipment, cranes/hoists, robotics/automation, or similar manufacturing processes preferred.\nStrong knowledge of manufacturing safety practices and OSHA general industry requirements.\nAbility to identify hazards and develop practical corrective actions appropriate for a manufacturing environment.\nStrong investigation and root cause analysis skills.\nAbility to effectively communicate safety requirements to employees at all levels of the organization.\nStrong presentation and training skills.\nAbility to coach employees and supervisors while maintaining appropriate accountability.\nStrong organizational and documentation skills.\nAbility to prioritize responsibilities across multiple facilities.\nComfortable working independently and making sound safety-related decisions.\nAbility to maintain confidentiality when handling employee injury and other sensitive information.\nProficient with Microsoft Office and safety recordkeeping/reporting systems.\nAbility to build positive working relationships with production employees, supervisors, managers, and senior leadership.\n\nEDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE\n Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Safety, Engineering, or a related field preferred.\n Equivalent combination of education and relevant manufacturing safety experience may be considered.\n Minimum of 3–5 years of safety experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.\n Experience supporting multiple facilities or locations is preferred.\n Working knowledge of OSHA regulations and general industry safety requirements.\n Experience conducting safety training, incident investigations, audits, and risk
