Applications are being accepted for Maintenance 1 position. This is a Bloomfield Hills Schools AFSCME bargaining unit position.

Responsible to: Assistant Director of Physical Plant Services

Primary Purpose: Maintenance and repair of district properties with abilities in electrical, plumbing, painting, carpentry, masonry, lawn cutting, and snow removal; assist/perform all maintenance duties; may be required to perform grounds and custodial duties as needed. Must possess a valid driver's license.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform transports and deliveries from inside or outside of the district.
• Maintain all athletic areas including removing debris, weeding, edging, tree trimming, and mowing of all grass.
• Responsible for snow and ice removal on all district properties.
• Responsible for operating equipment such as snow plows, lawn movers, chain saws, and field lining equipment.
• Open, close, and secure buildings.
• Repair locks, doors, lockers and clocks (including setting of clocks) as required.
• Repair Sloan valves, faucets, sinks, drinking fountains, other plumbing fixtures and opening of clogged drains.
• Repair light switches, lights, and outlets. Complete other minor electrical repairs as required.
• Check and maintain roof conditions. Replace broken glass.
• Paint walls, doors, and trim as needed.
• Repair furniture, shelving, doors and other related equipment
• Drywall and repair wall systems. Perform light masonry, installation of floor tiles, cove base, and stair treads.
• Install bulletin boards and dry erase boards.
• Remove trash/debris for all district buildings and grounds.
• May be required to perform some custodial duties as needed.
• Perform other related duties as determined by administration in order to continue district operations.

General: Staff should have knowledge of general maintenance as stated above. Be able to work alone or with others and lead a crew if needed. Must maintain a valid driver's license and have a satisfactory driving record.

Language Skills: Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Physical Demands: May perform any tasks related to the repair and maintenance of district assets and properties. This includes performing tasks in areas including but not limited to electrical, plumbing, HVAC, masonry, and grounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to sit, climb ladders, walk on roofs, walk and stand, and travel from buildings to other sites. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus (see attached Job Analysis). The employee is required to be able to hear conversations in quiet and noisy environments.

Work Environment: While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works both inside and outside. The employee must be able to meet deadlines with time constraints. The employee will frequently work irregular or extended work hours while performing the duties of this job.
