The Certified Coding Specialist II is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely revenue capture. This role involves reviewing medical documentation, entering service charges (CPT/ICD-10 codes) into the EHR system, supporting Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS) quality reporting, and reconciling daily patient encounters.

The specialist must maintain high-volume data entry standards to ensure compliance, minimize claim denials, and support the organization's financial and quality performance.

Position Details

• Work Location: Community Hospice and Palliative Care main location, 4266 Sunbeam Road Jacksonville FL. No work from home at this time.
• Days/Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00pm
• Compensation: $18.50 - $23.00 hour; full benefits package plus 23 days annual PTO

Job Requirements

• Charge Capture & Entry: Review patient data for deficiencies and enter service charges (CPT-4 and ICD-10-CM) into billing software to facilitate timely reimbursement.
• Quality Reporting (MIPS): Accurately enter MIPS quality improvement measures into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) for submission to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS).
• Reconciliation & Auditing: Reconcile daily patient charges and MIPS data to identify missing services or outstanding charges. Run daily audit reports to verify program accuracy, provider attribution, and the appropriate use of modifiers.
• Reporting & Analytics: Generate weekly and monthly productivity reports. Prepare and distribute the CPC claims end-of-month report to Finance and the inpatient backlog/deficiency spreadsheet to CNC.
• Data Management: Maintain organized digital filing systems (folders and directories) for providers and coders; ensure data is retrievable and purge outdated files at specified intervals.
• Patient Tracking: Update patient dispositions in the EMR to ensure seamless tracking and accurate billing triggers.
• Compliance & Quality: Meet or exceed defined productivity, compliance, and quality benchmarks. Keep the Medical Coding Supervisor informed of missing charges, data delays, or necessary process improvements.
• Operational Support: Maintain a high level of technical literacy regarding billing hardware and software; assist with special projects for the Medical Coding and Compliance programs as needed.

Required Knowledge and Critical Skills Needed

• Coding Knowledge: Strong understanding of medical terminology, ICD-10-CM, CPT codes, and payer-specific requirements.
• Software Proficiency: Intermediate to advanced skills in MS Office (specifically Excel) and experience with Electronic Medical Record (EMR) systems.
• Data Entry: Proficient in 10-key data entry with a target productivity level of 75100 entries per day.
• Attention to Detail: Exceptional accuracy in high-volume, fast-paced data entry environments.
• Organization: Proven ability to multitask and manage complex filing systems.
• Communication: Effective written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with Finance, CNC, and Coding teams.

Experience and Licenses/Certifications

• Two to four (24) years experience in medical billing, coding, or revenue cycle operations.
• Degree, certification or certificate in Medical Billing or Coding (e.g., RHIT, CPB), preferred.
• High School Diploma or GED required.
