Lab Associate I – Special Chemistry Location: San Juan Capistrano, CA Work Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday, 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM Pay Range: $20.44 – $26.32 per hour (shift differential 10% on second shift, 15% on third shift). Responsibilities Prepare and organize samples for testing, e.g., sample racking, aliquoting and tube preparation. Label, handle, process or prepare, and transport and store specimens. Identify sample problems and assist in resolving them appropriately. Prepare testing equipment and assist with preventive maintenance; notify appropriate technical staff of equipment problems. Assist licensed personnel (CA only) or delegated supervisor (non‑CA) in pre‑analytic and post‑analytic testing activities (other than trainees) in a licensed clinical laboratory. Prepare pre‑analytical reagents and controls using automated or fixed‑volume measuring devices. Submit documentation to appropriate staff for approval. Maintain complete and accurate records of reagents or media using established procedures, formulas, stock solutions and fixed‑volume measuring devices. Maintain inventory of consumable items including reagents and supplies. Order, unpack, log, date and store reagents/supplies upon receipt and properly rotate stock for use. Perform inventory of laboratory items including restocking benches and equipment inventory. Sort and accession incoming specimens into the appropriate LIS, then deliver to designated testing. Perform data entry or transcribe data from previously recorded results to computer for data reduction and prepare for licensed personnel’s review. Tally workload data and prepare reports as requested. Assist in the performance of quality control procedures. Prepare protocols/logs or other appropriate documents. Identify specimen problems and demonstrate ability to resolve or elevate to licensed personnel (CA only) or delegated supervisor (non‑CA). Answer phones, transfer, or take accurate messages. Maintain confidentiality of client information. Help ensure laboratory areas are neat, clean, and organized. Comply with all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices. Required to use personal protective equipment. Other duties as assigned (not exhaustive). Qualifications Required Work Experience: For Lab Associates in Histopathology or Cytology departments the following qualifications are required: basic knowledge of operating non‑complex equipment. Preferred Work Experience: 1–2 years of laboratory experience preferred. Physical and Mental Requirements Lifting/carrying: 1–10 lb often, 11–25 lb occasionally, 26–50 lb seldom; > 50 lb requires assistance. Repetitive tasks with dominant hand. Ability to sit and/or stand for long periods. Good eye and hand coordination. Knowledge Working knowledge of reagent stability and storage. Awareness of factors that influence test results. Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Office Application (Word, Excel, Outlook). Strong typing skills desirable. Communication and interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with management, co‑workers, and clients. Other automation skills helpful. Education High School Diploma or Equivalent (Required). Some college courses (2–3 years) preferred.
