Accounting Specialist I/II

The Business, Facilities and Operations Division is now accepting applications for Accounting Specialist I/II.

The Accounting Specialist I/II will distribute revenue from Federal, State, and/to local agencies to school districts within Santa Clara County in accordance with applicable laws, rules, and regulations; will perform highly responsible technical accounting functions in the maintenance, reporting, report generation, verification and reconciliation of specialized accounting and payroll records, reports and/or services, and will perform related duties as assigned. Accounting Specialist I and Accounting Specialist II serve as an alternate class series. Persons may be initially employed in either level depending on their qualifications. The current vacancy will focus on payroll audit/processing and retirement compliance. This position is full-time, in-person and has a work year of 12 months, 260 days, 8 hours per day.

Education and Experience

Any combination equivalent to: Accounting Specialist I:

• Education: Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in accounting, budgeting, business law or a related field AND
• Experience: one year experience in public accounting, finance or fiscal record-keeping

Accounting Specialist II:

• Education: Associate's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in accounting, budgeting, business law or a related field AND
• Experience: two years of experience equivalent to the Accounting Specialist I

Examination Procedures

• Assessments and interviews may take place virtually or in-person.
• Following the final filing date, the qualifications of all candidates will be evaluated.
• The most qualified candidates will be invited to participate in a written exam, tentatively scheduled for June 9, 2026.
• Those who pass the written exam will be invited to participate in an oral examination with subject matter experts, tentatively scheduled for June 18, 2026.
• Based on the final scores of qualified candidates, Classified Personnel Services will establish a ranked candidate list.
• Selected candidates from the list will be invited to a second interview with the hiring authorities, tentatively scheduled for June 26, 2026.

• Second interviews may be held in-person.
