Deliver legal services across the organization by analyzing relevant precedents, developing strategy, and providing legal expertise that supports the achievement of strategic and operational goals, minimizes risk, and is in compliance.Your new rolePrimary Responsibilities Provide effective legal support to assigned business segments to advance QBENAs corporate strategy and meet or exceed its financial targetsResolve internal regulatory inquiries by researching and analyzing legal precedent to draft legal documents, provide recommendations and support lines of businessAdvise senior managers on complex legal matters by utilizing legal expertise to assess risk and recommend effective and appropriate solutions for a given situationContribute to cross-functional decision-making by analyzing the legal implications of corporate strategies, procedures and programs and participating in multi-disciplinary teams to influence development of company policies and best practicesDrive continuous improvement processes, high levels of client satisfaction and favorable legal outcomesFacilitate organizational compliance with applicable laws and regulations by utilizing knowledge of laws, policies and best practices to review documents and provide expertise on strategies for minimizing risk and limiting exposureDevelop legal contracts by negotiating terms and clarifying issues to ensure realization of business objectivesCommunicate with key regulatory bodies and external partners by networking and providing information on behalf of the company to uphold organizational reputation and maintain beneficial external relationshipsRequired Education Doctoral DegreeRequired Experience 10+ years relevant experienceRequired Licenses/Certifications Admitted to the BarPreferred Competencies/Skills Effectively present thoughts to key stakeholders to influence adoption of innovative recommendationsLegal analysis and writingShare information to achieve synergyUtilize effective research and investigative techniquesEffectively and efficiently present logic, reasoning, and analysis to othersAnticipate obstacles and challenges, identify root cause and strategize plans to addressEscalate issues when necessaryUtilize individual judgment to make decisions in ambiguous situationsManage and prioritize competing responsibilities concurrently and effectivelyCommunicate information in a clear, well-organized, and professional mannerRespond calmly, quickly and decisively to unpredictable or unexpected events and changesParticipate in required continuing legal educationPreferred Education Juris Doctor degree from an accredited U.S. law schoolPreferred Experience15+ years experience managing the legal and regulatory risks and acting as a strategic business parter to the underwriting units of a P&C and Specialty insurance companyPrior experience as In-house counselPrior experience leading a team of attorneysPreferred Knowledge Legal and regulatory researchBusiness and financial acumenInsurance regulatory and compliance knowledgeRelationship between legal department and other business functionsPolicies, practices, trends, and information affecting his/her business and organizationCompensation Package: The salary range for this role is provided above. This is the national range for location(s) listed. The salary offer will be decided based on the role's complexity, its location, and the candidates professional background, including their education and experience. Beyond the base salary, regular full-time and part-time employees will also be eligible for QBEs annual discretionary bonus plan based on business and individual performance.
